How is this game using so much RAM?!
I'm sort of liking the game so far (much too early to say), but it's kind of bad on a technical level. When the game is not in focus, the music audio becomes really choppy. The loading times are fairly bothersome, even though I have the game on an SSD - looking at the wardrobe was particularly bad. I also checked task manager, and noticed that it seems to use around 1.5 to 3 gigabytes of RAM, which is absolutely absurd for what is essentially a visual novel. What's going on?

Also, I just resumed my game and the text is lagging, so the issue is getting even worse with time. :(

We're so sorry for the inconvenience! We can think of two things being the issue:

1: You may have somehow encountered a memory leak that we are completely unaware of, if things get worse with time. Restarting the game should (hopefully) fix that.

2: The more likely scenario is that it's unfortunately the way the game runs. We have optimized RAM and VRAM to the best of our abilities, and we did completely rework a lot of the loading logic during the main development to improve loading times (they were much, much worse before). But the fact is that the game engine we use for the game (GameMaker Studio 2) isn't meant for games of this size, both in terms of game logic and graphics, and it has caused a lot of issues during the later stages of development. At this point, there's unfortunately nothing we can do about it. The music being weird when minimized is also most likely due to the way the game engine handles things, but it isn't something we have encountered before, so we can't say for sure.

Also, the text lagging might be mitigated by using the Low framrate adjustment-setting. The text lagging is something that we've only encountered on two of the non-development computers we have been testing on. On one of them, the issue was constant and turning the setting on helped. On the other, the issue only occurred sometimes and the setting didn't help, but using instant text speed (in manual mode, not using auto text) worked around the issue.

We hope that you can still enjoy the game in spite of the limitations!
I tried the low framerate adjustment and it didn't help. Fortunately, I found that for some reason, de-maximizing and re-maximizing the window helped with the text lag for some reason, so the game is at least playable.

Damn, sounds like this GameMaker Studio engine isn't great. I'll avoid them if I ever get into game development. :o
... Also, another bug. My character's hair disappeared for some reason. D:

How odd, we've never had that happen before! Any idea what you did between having hair and it disappearing?
Nope, the front of the hair just up and disappeared for one conversation (one with Jacques about his childhood). I checked the wardrobe immediately after and it was back, and it remained there for the following conversations.

Very strange... We'll look into it, but with a bug like this, there's no guarantee that we will be able to find/replicate and fix it. Still, thank you for the report!
