Alternate Fires
I've unlocked the alternate fire mode for a few weapons so far, but not all of them. For every single one I've unlocked thus far, it seems that there's no downside to using it over the single fire. Pretty much every weapon that I've seen an alternate fire mode is just "fire more projectiles" but without using more ammo.

If there's no reason to use the primary fire after unlocking the alternate fire, in the case of a flat upgrade, then there's no reason to require it to use the alternate fire button, and should just replace the primary fire. If there are weapons where you'd consciously want to decide between primary and secondary fire, then retain the mechanic for those.

I've started playing around with a lot more alternate fires and it seems like they have their own cooldowns or something? Occasionally they'll just not work and I have to mash the button or wait a while to use them again, so maybe that's why they have their own input. When I was using the rippers, they seemed to be able to consistently use their alt-fire whenever I wanted, but with the laser, pulse gun, and miniguns, they only seem to work some of the time.

Do they actually have their own cooldowns for use? If so, what are they based on, a certain time window after the first shot or a total amount of ammo? Is there a visual indicator that they're ready? I know there's a larger issue of having to choose between actually seeing the indicators on some of the weapons to read your ammo/subweapon CDs or not having your screen absolutely cluttered, but I'm wondering if there's any way to tell at all if you can or can't currently use the alt fire on a weapon.

Yes, there is a timed cooldown, and when you reach it you can shoot with secondary for some time (much like the Blood Ability) and then, after this window of time that you can shoot at will with the secondary, you need to wait for the cooldown again.

Is there any kind of visual indicator of when you can use your Alternate Fire ability again? I know if you have your weapon visibility pushed back, you really can't see any indicators at all, be it for ammo counts or your secondary weapons being ready, but even when I had them fully out, I couldn't find one myself, but I might have missed it.

How does Alt. Fire work when you are playing the game with Auto-Fire engaged? Will the game auto-employ secondary fire if you have it?
