Controller stops working on reconnect - Proton Experimental issue

Lately, my controller (PS4) stops working if I reconnect it.

The only thing I've found that fixes the issue is closing the game and starting it up again.

I mostly play Monster Hunter World and I don't think it's been updated in forever. So probably not a game issue. It feels to me like this is a Steam related thing but I might be wrong. I'm experiencing this on both Linux Mint and Garuda (Arch). I have 500 hours play time in the game and this is the first time I've had this problem.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues?

UPDATE: This turns out to be an issue with Proton Experimental. Using the latest version of Proton 9 lets me unplug and reconnect the controller without problems.

Hopefully, this issue with Proton Experimental will be fixed.
