Adding more equipment slots is something we're considering. Another alternative is to add some inventory space to the lootcat so you can bring a couple of equipment pieces with you.
We haven't decided which road to take yet as either option will impact the balance of the game a lot and we want to make sure that if we create changes to this design it makes the game more fun.
Another thing could be that you are able to upgrade your artefacts and that you have the option of selling them for glod or destroy them for materials. And the materials can be used to upgrade the artefacts.
It's more likely that we will be able to add a way for the lootcat to hold onto an item for you.
But this isn't a topic we've forgotten or left behind, it just requires a lot of careful consideration on how to address it. :)
