Head north out of town on the road. Don't worry about the roadblock, and if that nosy robot tries to warn you, ignore him. After all, that's where the checkered suit guy's trail comes from. Gotta follow the trail while it is hot, right?

Or go north of Sloan as part of founding People for the Ethical Treatment of Deathclaws... so so many ways to do this in New Vegas.

another way is to go to New Vegas in the Strip. Murder Civilians, and get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ by Guards

i seem to recall needing to kill yourself in fallout games to fix the engine.

if you have 100 survival the easiest way to kill yourself is to simply dehydrate yourself with like 10 beers.
