Finally a full game based on Goldorak !
And it's a nice little game, with a good story, truthful to its universe.
But gameplay mechanics are repetitive, combats are not that interesting, mainly because the AI is poorly coded.
The missions objectives are weak : you walk or run, you defeat stupid robots, you run, you fight, you talk to someone and so on. From time to time you fly, it's more fun and breaks monotony, but not a game changer.
It's odd, but I still want to play more, beacause it reminds me of my childhood, it has the "old school simple gameplay" vibe.
And I like being able to use it on my Steam Deck, but optimization is awful !
It runs @15-20fps on Steam Deck and changing settings doesn't make a big difference (you might achieve 25-30fps with very very low settings)... In fact I never saw a recent game with so simple graphics being such badly optimized.
The "in house" Microïds game engine was a terrible choice in that case, it obviously struggles with large open worlds, although graphics are "Switch entry level" at best.
I'm pleased to see that the Microïds switched to Unreal Engine 5 for their new Ant game, and doing a wonderful job with it! If only Goldorak was running on UE5, it would be @40/60fps on Steam Deck and probably looking so much better...
Nonetheless, I still like it and hope the team will get us a proper PC version, optimized and all.
