Starts out fine, but it doesn't take long before you hit a ceiling where you can't add new cards/characters/covers without spending money. Once there aren't options for new characters, there are almost no puzzles to play (maybe one or two a day) with a lot of puzzles being locked to a certain character that you almost certainly wouldn't have without paying,

If the issue was just a freeze on (or very long wait for) new characters, this could still be a playable game... but it's a simple Match 3 game where the limits prevent you from just playing a Match 3 game.
