New update!

Changes for v1.1.1:

- You can now destroy almost all pickups with your welder, to reduce the possibility of blocking yourself. Exceptions are quest items like lost bags and waste barrels, as well as anything required for the critical path (such as the fuel and Miraclium during the tutorial)
- Destroying a crate will abort your current delivery mission (with the usual credit deduction)
- Destroying fuel (in either raw or refined forms) will cause an explosion that hurts you and damages your ship (just for fun)

- You can no longer sell waste barrels from an upgraded refinery (or anything else with a credit value of zero)
- Fixed Hole's introduction bugging out Red Weed distress missions
- Fixed Red's introduction causing a crash if you return to your ship midway through disposing of barrels
- Fixed crash caused when a romanced Red tries to talk to you in certain circumstances
- Fixed formatting in console exhibits menus
- Fixed upgrades not resetting in post-post-game

First of all, thanks to everyone who has bought and been enjoying Starstruck Vagabond since its launch just over a month ago. And thanks for all the great feedback, which was very useful in compiling this, the first big feature update aimed at improving the gameplay experience all around. Here are the deets:


One of the most persistent issues with players who put in enough time was that there wasn't enough to spend money on and too many unused upgrade units kicking around in the late game. There's now a suite of new upgrades available to soak up some of that. Sprint shoes! Upgraded weapons! The ability to sell items directly from your processing plant! A new cockpit function to help keep track of your planet's collections in the post-ending! And more!


Meet Fixbot, the cheerful shipyard robot who will happily take the burden of some of your workload. Say the word, and he'll fix every current issue with your ship AND refill the gas tank to boot! It's an expensive service, especially for something you can do yourself for free, but can you really put a price on free time?

On top of that, Freight Offices have now been overhauled, so there's an actual reason to go there after your first delivery assignment. Now, while taking new assignments over your comms will always give you an assignment geared for the size of your cargo platform, going to the freight office will let you choose the size of your delivery. Want to just do a quick three box run to unlock a new sector? Now you can! Want to take a massive 24-box delivery despite only having a tiny default cargo platform, because you're insane? You can do that too!


Now there's actually a reason to romance your crew besides bragging rights! Romanced crew members will put on alternative outfits and have alternative versions of standard dialogue reflecting your new relationship. They'll also request additional "private meetings" after the first, also with new dialogue, so get ready to try to keep up with them.

PLEASE NOTE: On existing save files from old versions of the game, already romanced crew members will have their affection levels dropped down to 3 hearts with the 4th ready to pop, so you'll have to trigger their romance again to enjoy their new looks.

• Aborting delivery missions will now de-authorize any authorized sectors you haven't yet visited
  
• Map icons now show when a planet has an upgrade unit known to be available in any capacity (side job reward, left on the loading zone, etc)

• Hydroponic plants now have tooltips showing what produce they will drop
  
• Shipyards now allow you to view upgrade descriptions even if you don't have enough units to buy them
  
• Added graphics to crew menu differentiating 4 heart romance from 4 heart friendship
  
• Radioactive crates will now also damage adjoining refrigerated crates

Update time! They've been thinner on the ground in the last couple of weeks because I've been secretly working on the big 1.1 update for the end of the month, which will add new content and much-asked-for features. I'm working on it so secretly that I publicly talked about it in an update post.

In the meantime, today's update only has one much-asked-for feature, but it's a good one.

Changelog for 1.0.7.4

- You can now abort delivery missions by calling Galactic Freight through your ship's COMMS -> CONTACTS menu. All associated crates will be disappeared, and you will be fined 100 credits per crate as a disposal fee. You will retain authorisation for all pertinent sectors. In case anyone wants to do a "beat Starstruck Vagabond without delivering any crates" skill run.

- Going through Syl's story no longer erases everything on the cargo platform
- Fixed Syl not registering the Egg if you haven't warped somewhere first
- Fixed items disappearing from cargo platform during ending
- Game now saves the thing you're holding (so you can't vanish items by picking them up, saving the game, then reloading the game)
- Some general optimisation changes

Changelog for 1.0.7.3

- Added low impact mode to settings (try this is you've had frame rate drop issues; still trying to get to the bottom of that)
- Removed Eggsec jobs from no egg mode
- Seeds and rocks added to things you can't microwave
- Added failsafe to stop NPC pathfinding from hanging the game
- You no longer receive jobs to deliver more crates than can fit on the source planet's loading zone

Today's update (1.0.7.2) has a small but significant gameplay change. Taking aboard feedback - and concern that some people have essentially softlocked themselves by forgetting where they left the crates for their current mission - the game's maps now display "crates for pickup" icons on any planets where crates are currently located, not merely on their planet of origin.

Thanks again to everyone giving feedback and bug reports, continuing to help me scrape the last few rough edges off the game, and thanks to everyone else for their patience.

Couple of big fixes and some much-demanded gameplay quality of life changes today. If anyone after this patch is still getting one of those annoying crashes that make your save file crash the game every time you load it, please let me know in the discussion thread below, along with any log the crash provides and roughly where you were in the story when it happened.

- You now press the BACK button to talk to crewmembers rather than USE, so they don't interrupt you while you're working
- Plants now don't block you, only slow you down
- Wonders now appear on the PDA map
- Fixed game locking up if you get a load of crates dropped on you
- Fixed distress signals stopping after you go to the sector edge
- Fixed PDA hints crashing the game in postgame mode
- Various fixes all over the place straining out a few more cutscene hangs caused by blocked NPCs and crashes caused by saving at certain moments

I think we might be veering upon the end of thinking of updates in terms of "fixes" and can soon start thinking in terms of "quality of life improvements."

- Cooking a recipe that is also a resource (like orange juice, potato salad etc) will now let you pick it up as an item if you choose the "eat by yourself" option

- Fixed story objectives potentially being too close to planets

I'd say that hopefully this will be the last one for a while but I don't want to jinx myself. See, the headache is that what major bugs and crashes remain are mostly only ones that occur in highly specific scenarios with highly specific random seeds. Still, I continue to knock them out one by one.

Y'know, I was afraid after I released the game I wouldn't have anything to do in my special hobby time anymore. But now my hobby is fixing bugs, so I guess it all worked out. Today's patch will sort out the issue with derelicts with upgrade units always being located at -1,0, and that one where the planet in the first sector kept getting unsurveyed after a quit and reload. That one took some tracking down, let me tell you.
