Really charming game. It's like 3 games into one base building + troop management + hack and slash

I am still early on in the game after 3 hours. But what a treat its been so far. I love that Capcom gave time and money to make this somewhat smaller title a go. Visually the game is brilliant looking, and really captures the feeling of this mythical Japanese setting. And the gameplay is very interesting as well.

It's a mix between Strategy and Action combat. In a way it is one long escort mission, but in a good way. You clear a path for the princess to cleanse the land and place your units in strategic positions. And then you as the player go in with your hero and hack and slash the other enemies. This is all done in many different looking stages with each their own challenges.
In between missions you can relax and build up the towns and bring them back to their former glory. And then your off to kill a big boss. and so on.

If this theme and gameplay style is your thing, go grab it for yourself!!

Such a refreshing game! It's a super fun blend of map strategy, managing resources, and hack n slash.

Probably the most unique game I've played recently, not only is it bizzare looking but it's also got a really interesting twist on tower defense games. You are a samurai protector that has to protect the goddess as she cleanses the land of corruption, after which you can and should rebuild all the buildings and equipment, which in turn gives you collectibles and upgrade points. There are no towers, instead, you command different units, ranging from mages, melee soldiers as well as ranged shooters, each fitting a different role, at either dispatching enemies, supporting other units or tanking all the enemies. Capcom's enemy design is something that should be put in history books as this is another game with super unique enemy designs that don't cease to amaze. Plenty of replay value and a bunch of stuff to unlock on your way to 100%, definitely recommend it.

This game is NOT going to be for everyone, but for people who enjoy these weird experimental games from the big publishers, this does scratch that itch pretty well. Heavily recommend checking out the demo to see if this is up your alley.

This is a beautiful game with a unique vision that is visible in every aspect of the presentation. From the strange enemy designs to the inspired soundtrack and the animations that make everything look like a ritual dance.
While the combat is pretty simple and the game over all quite easy, the creativity and experience as a whole more than makes up for it.
If you're looking for a mechanically deep game or a complex story this may not be the game for you but if you're up for an atmospheric japanese folk tale paired with a unique and polished blend of multiple genres I cannot recommend this game enough.
I might hate Capcom's business practices and treatment of certain IPs but I absolutely respect them for putting out niche games like this that defy a lot of modern trends.

Kunitsu-Gami è un gioco talmente unico e originale, che spendere parole per una recensione o un consiglio è quasi inutile.
Quindi è sicuramente consigliato.
Posso solo fare due osservazioni in merito: alcune critiche riguardo all'aspetto strategico poco approfondito sono a mio parere fondate. Il gioco mescola con successo un combat-system in terza persona come solo Capcom può offrire e un sistema strategico che per mio gusto sarebbe stato più efficace se gestito in modo diverso.
1. Al di fuori delle missioni si gestiscono le costruzioni e si ottengono risorse offerte dal completamento delle prime. La gestione di queste operazioni richiede di portare il proprio personaggio nei luoghi interessati alla ricostruzione e nei luoghi in cui le costruzioni sono già avvenute per ritirare la ricompensa. Il fatto di dover gestire tutte queste semplici operazioni al termine di ogni missione e guidando concretamente il personaggio nei luoghi interessati rende questa dinamica un poco ripetitiva. Sarebbe forse stato meglio gestire l'andamento delle costruzioni e il ritiro delle ricompense con un sistema più gestionale, abbandonando momentaneamente il controllo del personaggio.
2. La gestione nello spazio dei combattenti del villaggio (che in ogni missione partecipano in numero e con ruoli diversi) è poco incisiva. Mi spiego meglio: i combattenti del villaggio sono estremamente utili e i loro diversi ruoli fondamentali per la difesa della sacerdotessa e la riuscita di alcune missioni particolarmente ostiche, tuttavia, mentre ad inizio gioco facevo molta attenzione a come posizionarli in base al loro ruolo, da metà gioco in poi li posizionavo in blocco tutti in difesa della sacerdotessa, ottenendo più vantaggio così che sistemandoli in base alle opportunità e ai vantaggi che sembrava offrire il territorio. Questo dimostra a mio parere che il sistema di gioco e il livello di difficoltà non mi hanno richiesto nessun adattamento strategico per superare con successo tutte le missioni.
Questo lo trovo un peccato, e una scarsa valorizzazione di alcuni aspetti delle meccaniche più strategiche.
Ultima pecca: colonna sonora stupenda, ma uguale per tutto il gioco, a meno che da un certo punto non si selezioni manualmente quella di Okami.

Detto ciò: consiglio vivamente questo gioco per molti motivi.
1. Il combat-system del protagonista è bilanciato in termini di semplicità, personalizzazioni e potenziamenti. Per 2/3 del gioco mi era sfuggito che il nastro a cui sono appesi i cimeli (che rappresentano visivamente le abilità e i potenziamenti) fosse esso stesso modificabile, facendo cambiare completamente movimenti e tipi di attacco al protagonista, aspetto questo che motiva di molto la rigiocabilità di ogni singola missione e boss.
2. L'atmosfera è fantastica, la direzione artistica anche. Si ha l'impressione di essere di fronte ad un'opera che non prende nulla da nient'altro, quasi come alcuni giochi di un bel po' di anni fa...
3. ... per l'appunto, bellissima la possibilità di poter scegliere la colonna sonora di Okami!
4. New Game + motivante, con nemici più forti e la possibilità di usare tutti i ruoli e potenziamenti sbloccati. Bella la trovata di aver lasciato il boss più bello di tutto il gioco solo per chi completa il New game +.

Kunitsu-Gami è un gioco che mi resterà nel cuore, come solo le opere davvero uniche riescono a fare. Le mie critiche e osservazioni sono anche proporzionali a quanto ho amato questo gioco e quanto sono fiero di finanziare prodotti come questo.
Consiglio inoltre Shinsekai, gioco di qualche anno fa che rivede alcuni nomi dello stesso team che ha realizzato Kunitsu-Gami.
