KH2 Game Crashing and UI Bugs (New, didn't show up before)
So foreword; i played from start to finish in KH2, experience 1 singular crash but overall it was very stable.

Went to start post-game finally today and now game is crashing consistently almost every 30 minutes, with no real trigger (sometimes it's mid combat, sometimes it's room transition, sometimes it's on interacting with Save), and almost immediately after starting the menu UI gets replaced entirely with squares (Screenshot below)

So uh... we got any clue what's causing this because this is both out of nowhere and making it impossible to do post-game content.

I THINK I FOUND THE FIX (at least for now)

Set the framerate to 30fps

APPARENTLY when Square bumped it up to 60+fps it broke a lot of ♥♥♥♥
Just entered journal which we knew caused the bug and it didn't cause the UI issues!

I just tested it out and it worked for me too! I think i did something wrong to my settings though, it's... in slow motion??? I'm not a computer person :steamsad:
Try disabling "refresh rate" (which is really V-Sync) in the game's settings.

I started having that issue as well and came to post exactly about that! I went through the whole game perfectly fine with no crashes or issues and sometime around last weekend i started having these same issues, I noticed that the menu UI glitch happens after opening jiminy's journal but the crashing is, as you described, seemingly random

okay so it's not just me then, and these issues are in fact new in that case.

I had this issue start for me as well around 8 days ago. Crashes are random, the visual glitch can occur after accessing the journal and sometimes after a tutorial. Waiting for a fix, unplayable until then.

I honestly think a fix will never really come. Never saw a patch for any kingdom hearts game. They added the final mixes and thats basically it.

thing is this bug wasn't there initially, which feels like they patched something that introduced it

Based on the appearance, I'd say it might have to do with UI/font files not being found or being corrupted. Verifying your files might help.

There's only been a single patch to the public branch so far, and it modified three UI files. I assumed they're only used for the collection's game setting menu, but I'm not sure.

I finally beat Xemnas and got to the after battle cutsences. Once Sora got his hand on the letter to read near the end is when my game decided to crash on me. OMG i have to deal with the whole fight all over again!?
