Dream Drop Distance's general plot is preparing for KH3's ending. It introduces multiple new plot points while giving some explanations of others introduced in previous titles.
0.2 explains what happens to Aqua after Birth by Sleep. 0.2 is effectively a prologue of KH3, and has elements of KH3's overall gameplay.
Why it's called 2.8? Cause Nomura. KH3's first cutscene after the "the tutorial" actually ends with text saying "Kingdom Hearts 2.9." (Which can either be a joke on the naming scheme of these HD remasters, or it is a reference to the fact that it takes place immediately after KH0.2)
If you’ve already played Chain of Memories, then you already know how important the “””””””side””””””””””” games are.
DDD is the Chain of Memories style game to 3. Although probably even more important.
100% agree and can personally confirm this to be true.
Even when you go through Re:CoM, it ends in a way that we are supposed to never have known to have been there.
Like Larxene and Axel. They make direct references to Sora at points, which confuses him and hes like "How do you know me"? Well, due to Castle Oblivion. So even IF you dont go through that game, KH2 is set up in a way, which that makes perfect sense.
As the player, we are the same as Sora... Who is Larxene? The hell is she on about? So in that way, skipping Re:CoM, might allow for more immersion.
DDD doesnt do this, its all setup and there is no "point of view" character for anyone who's skipped it.
Its not even his guide, he just stole it, altered it then took credit.
Its not really a sign of importance, more of a sign of main lead. Even the non-numbered games where Sora is playable, he's usually sharing the role with someone else for either half the game or the other character has around 1/3 by comparison.
They're all.........mostly with recoded existing.......important.
