Known issues. Please read this first before reporting problems
This is a list of issues we are aware of and are already working on solving them.

  • AMD gaming evolved
    Issues with game freezing or lagging during loading have been reported when using the AMD Gaming Evolved.
    If you experience such problems, please try to switch off the in-game overlay in the settings.
    If that doesn't help, dsable AMD Gaming Evolved (right click the system tray icon and click exit).

  • Windows 10 and/or specific video card problems (OpenGL problem)
    Users reported the game not working with the preview Windows 10. This version of Windows is not yet supported.


  • Some issues were reported for Nvidia GeForce gtx260, gtx275 or gtx280 cards.
    If your game is not running, please try this.

    Try to adjust TDR-related (Timeout Detection and Recovery) registry settings.
    These can be found by running regedit.exe and navigating to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers.
    If the settings (keys) are not there, they have to be created (with type REG_DWORD).

    The first option is to increase the timeout threshold by setting TdrDelay to a larger value (e.g. 10).
    If this doesn?t help, TDR can be disabled altogether by setting TdrLevel to 0.

  • Issue for discrete soundcard users
    If your game is not responding, please try to give it more time as it can sometimes initialize a bit longer.
    If that doesn't help, and you're using a discrete soundcard (ex. Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi) try this user fix.

    DISCLAIMER: this is a report and fix by user, not in any way a confirmed official Ironward method, use at your own risk.
    Try replacing the game's openal32.dll (<path-to-steam-library>\steamapps\common\TheRedSolstice\bin) with the latest 32-bit OpenAL Soft DLL from kcat.strangesoft.net
    Make sure to rename the OpenAL Soft DLL to openal32.dll, while also backing up the original openal32.dll for backup.


  • Video playback crash
    It was brought to our attention that in some rare cases one of our video files may get corrupted in a way that can cause unexpected behavior or crashes in our playback library.

    While we work on a permanent fix, the issue can be solved by erasing the video file (located in <game installation folder>\assets\language\gui\data and then opening your steam client, right clicking on The Red Solstice, selecting properties form the drop down menu, navigating to local files tab and pressing "verify integrity of local cache" button.

It just fails to start up. I've restarted steam and my computer and it still refuses to start up. I forget the error message but it's telling me to check steam support.

crashes after 2 seconds from startup.. I get a report box which i have filled in but that dosnt work either.

windows 10
GTX 680
anti virus switched off
Registry settings LtrDelay etc
windows 7 compatibility mode
run as Admin....
uninstall reinstall, file integrity checks....

I realize this is a super old thread, but no one seems to be active and I wanted to reach out to a developer. A group of friends of mine recently bought the game but we can't play it because textures don't load. The map is completely black.

All of our systems are new, using the Radeon 7900 XTX . All drivers are updated and we are stumped. Is there anything that you can recommend so we can play?

We have a vague idea, it's related to some update in latest drivers of Radeon type graphics card. Will see if we can solve it easily.

According to devs, AMD did a recent update that should fix the problem. I tried it but it didn't work. Would love to see if it works for anyone else in the thread, so please try the new update.

I have the same issue and was wondering if there has been any progress? I have a radeon rx 580 myself. For the textures not loading to clarify
