The thing that keeps me coming back to this game is this overwhelming feeling of nostalgia - this old-timey pixel art like the overworld in an early Final Fantasy or DragonQuest game is not only an evocative style, but creates this feeling of travel, reinforces that you're crossing vast distances and living off the land.

Add roguelike mechanics on top of that, and you have a big winner. It's HARD, don't get me wrong, but earnestly cute in a way that keeps you from being too frustrated. The main challenge in One Way Heroics is resource management - a selection of limited abilities and not-guaranteed boosts in the world that can get you out of run-killers if carefully managed. This is one of the only roguelikes that leaves me wondering if I can get in and out of that dungeon without drawing the attention of the super-powered enemies within, instead of just crashing through everything and hoping my run turns out fine.
