I play a lot of RPG maker games never had to configure the controller.
I will try again now.
Thanks for reporting the issue.
Great, glad to hear it!
Windows 8.1
XBox 360 Controller
MKXP Version
When configuring the controller, with directinput off. I can't get the controller to do anything on the gamepad remapping screen or anywhere else, but I can remap using the keyboard in the gamepad remapping screen.
After I found this thread, I set DirectInput to on and it fixed it.
Thanks for the information. We're still not sure why controllers sometimes won't work with DirectInput off, but at least there is a workaround with DirectInput for now.
Symptoms:
Xbox controller works fine in steam to launch the game, stops working in game. Built-in buttons on the deck work. Xbox button on controller pulls up the steam slideout menu so the controller is still sending signals. Tested the remap gamepad function in the game's Settings menu, the game didn't recognize any controller button's input.
Cause:
LD only polls the "first" controller input but has no way of indicating what that input device is. For me that was the Deck's built-in buttons, for others who find this thread--do you have multiple peripherals plugged in?
Resolution (for Steam Deck):
> Use STEAM button to slide out the menu (Xbox button on the controller also worked)
> under the LD submenu: controller settings
> Make sure the controller is present as an option. Hit activate(?can't remember?) button if necessary.
> Hit the [Reorder Controllers] button
> make Steam Deck 1 and Xbox 2.
Note: this does mean that the buttons on the deck stop working inside the game.
Note: *CHANGE THIS BACK!!!* before disconnecting. If you unplug a USB controller, undock the Deck, or (maybe: bluetooth controller disconnects/sleeps/battery dies? didn't test) the game won't accept *any* future input. Plugging back in won't work, built-in buttons won't work. Controls still work for Steam so you'll have to restart & lose all game progress since your last save.
