I’ve played Slash Quest on Apple Arcade before and I gave up on it due to the game’s repetitiveness. Playing it on PC where I’m not bound to a subscription, I’ve taken my time to complete it instead of rushing things. This helps A LOT. The controls are simple but hard to master, the variety comes from slight changes to the puzzles and visuals in each world. The repetitiveness comes from the addition of side quests and tasks that are great in quantity but heavily re-use the main game’s assets. The main game can be completed rather quickly, so it feels like these additions were meant to keep the players busy, especially with its roots as a subscription game. It feels like the novelty of the simple gameplay is just enough for the main game but trying to stretch that with side content, it shows that more is needed to keep things engaging. The game also lays it pretty thick when it comes to its progressiveness. The Knight Witch, a game I completed recently, was more subtle about it in comparison.

What you get in return is a fun game with a very original gameplay, it’s polished in every way, the graphics are good, it has lots of content, also lots of customisation options, the music is pretty catchy, the dialogues can be quite funny and more. The price of €5 is very good and getting it through a bundle, I’m left satisfied with my purchase. The achievements are great, they’re the ‘try and complete everything’ variety along with buying 20 costumes. The latter is doable after completing everything and not overspending on the skill upgrades. Steam shows 14 hours but 2 hours were afk, so it took me around 12 hours to get all the achievements. You have my blessings if you’re interested in the game, just don’t rush it. Play it in short bursts to avoid the repetitiveness.
