The nostalgia this game brings hits harder than a knife into Veradux's face.

even past all the nostalgia, this absolutely stands the test of time and is a seriously fun turn-based game. give it a go if you want a blast from the past

Sonny 1 was fun, but Sonny 2 is just painful.


I remember Sonny 2 being my favorite way back when, but this version just feels hostile to the player with changes made.
First and foremost, every turn is on a ~3 second timer and if you miss it you skip your turn. So, if you happen to play while doing or watching something else, you can't. There's a tooltip that is meant to help you learn your abilities by hovering over them for ~2 seconds, but by the time it even pops up you've lost your turn and cannot even read the entire thing before it disappears to learn your skills and how you want to play. You also need to control your companions in Sonny 2, so in that same window that you need to consider what you want to do, pick your action, you also will need to make sure your companion is on whatever mode you want them to be on at that time, this cannot be done anywhere else but combat that I have seen. This is a singleplayer, turn-based strategy game, why would you pretty much remove all sense of the player getting a proper turn to plan their actions?

Secondly, if you care about achievements, just bash your head into a wall, it'll be more enjoyable. The idea of only being able to get xp, money, and loot from main story combat without repeating fights or doing training is interesting, but forcing the player onto the max difficulty while having other incredibly difficult achievements they would need to hit along the way while being underleveled and underprepared, on top of only having ~3 seconds to plan each turn in the actual combat, feels like being kneecapped and then getting asked why can't I run a marathon.
