Since at least the update prior to most recent, the Steam Controller will vibrate for no reason. This is using the official controller configuration as found in the Steam Controller Configuration tool.

It appears there must be some problem with No Man's Sky interacting with the haptics. No other game has ever caused vibration without input from controller.
