But I agree the AI can be annoying so I keep it toggled off.
The problem I had was it was often blocking my view / target.
Nothing more annoying than that really.
How hard would it be to have it follow behind you ?
If it gets in your view have it move ?
It is super effective for angry sentinels. Never got any damage and was able to go through several waves of sentinels to get the walker and enemies splashed by Minotaur challenges. So it works great, just not a swiss army knife.
Still if you Kit the Minotaur with the cannon and spread out the mods to the other SC slots {forsaking everything else} ... it is pretty sickening. I never did this until the Expo as I was never forced to fight in it before and never opted to {as it is still not you}. Since on a "sliver" it was a toss away ... I just held back until the Milestone for Walkers ... did that and moved on.
Personally I like the Minotaur ... and feel it is plenty useful. But even Superman {you the player} needs a friend lol ... even if it will always be delicate and need protecting compared to you. Like many I may use it more for vanity as a pet {that no one but me sees lol ... is that vanity?} ... so may not focus the Mino for a singular purpose like in 14. Still it was fun fighting with it and the cannon is powerful.
For Brood I may have shot a few {you know the ones that pop up again while you are now fighting the Sentinels lol [double dipping cheaters]}. .. but knew I was not going to face tank them so just jumped out {kept AI off so as not to sabotage what I was doing} ... then back in when they subsided lol. I play more combat focused in the game ... but even I got tired of the Brood after a bit lol ... but at 25 nanites per Brood {as seen on the tally sheet at the end for "slivers"} for a regular Joe is not too bad over the course of 14. I can images a few nanite millionares were made lol.
I find all the craft worthless to use. I hate it when they game forces me to use one.
haha yeah indeed accurate, nanites made it worth.
You point out something important: the exocraft become more of a vanity item than an useful addition to the tools, which I find sad. Space exploration in its entirety is on technology and machinery like those :(
I really hope Dvs hear the call and fix these simple stats and behaviours....
They look good thou
And yes, AI ist not very ... inteligent.
indeed, damage can be tuned up accordingly after massive S-modules, but stay still and let them attack u and the Exos are just blowing up in seconds... same case with AI driver.
After the fight, your loses are massive in comparison to the gains
Rebalancing and proper upgrades path must be aligned
As a combat vehicle it is useless - it provides absolutely no defence, its attacks are weaker than your multi-tool (not weak per se, but still weaker), and it has poor mobility due to abyssmal turn rate and lack of strafe. Also, sometimes you just die instantly from full health without visible reason while in combat inside a vehicle.
As a transport it is annoying because you can only jump in a general direction. It barely walks and has massive inertia. If you try to move close to the target there is a chance you destroy it accidentally.
As a mobile mining unit it is also mediocre. Its AI sais it can assist, but it is not. Mining is faster and gives more yield with any sentinel multi-tool.
As a combat companion it is pretty decent, but extremely fragile and can be expensive to repair. ALso, you have no idea how much damage it took because it has no health indicator.
Main use for it is for resource gathering - you only need 16 or so data to unlock it, and it will allow you to safely traverse any biome without needing specific upgrades.
Also, its bore is surprisingly useful - mining depoits takes several minutes, and doing it from inside saves a lot of hazard protection batteries. But it is more of a problem with how terain manipulator works. You have to set it to minimal size to get any meaningful amount of resources, and there is no upgrades for it, and even supercharged slots do nothing.
good points. I think if Devs make deadly biomes where you definetely require to use an ExoCraft, then this can have a real use besides looking cool. Imagine traversing a fire hazard world in your vehicle as there is no other viable suit to survive less than a 1-2min in outdoors.
I hope that Devs really add interesting ways and balance these great ideas
Let's take Minotaur as an example.
Okay, you are getting inside... It gets up... Shrugs... Stretches... Stands still for a few more seconds... FIne, finally you get the controls. Good thing you weren't running for your life from a horde of angry abominations which can someone one-shot you while in exocraft for unknown reason.
Oh, its Radar Array says it can scan like Analysis Visor? Cool I can scan flora/fauna/minerals/etc without getting out! Oh, wait, no, it can't do that. False advertising, it just works as a Scanner. But in turn active scan with C highlight actually useful stuff instead of littering screen and compass with those plants you don't care about after the first 5 minutes after start.
You installed bore, now you can unearth stuff. And look, you can even loot buried technology without getting out! Nice, oh, it is in 95% of cases accompanied with damaged machinery... And you have to get out to loot it anyway. Hmmm at least buried caches are standalone, so you can loot them on the go! Wait, nope. You have to get out to do that.
Oh, how about gathering storm crystals? Oh, you can loot them without getting out! Nice! Let's do that... Damn, you miscalculated the jump (can't blame you, it is a slippery mountain slope in a blinding blizzard!). And crystal you wanted to loot is destroyed. Okay, let's jump further and walk to it. And walk. And walk. And... Why this damn thing walks like it is in a tar pit? And why it can't stafe and is barely able to turn? Ok, you are FINALLY near, you push E... And you exit it, because interaction button is also exit button. And now AI took over and walked in front of you, destroying those crystals too.
Maybe it can do something else? Oh, it can operate underwater too! Let's summon it and do some diving! Oh, it can't be summoned to underwater... Okay, let's do it on dry land and get in a water. So many things to collect underwater - living pearls, crystal sulphide, hypnotic eyes... And you would have to exit to loot any of them.
Ugh. FIne, let's do some combat... Wait, what? It does not have any protection, and any damage taken goes straight to your own shield/health? Fine, I'll fight on foot and let AI do some fighting on its own - I have much more mobility (and more damage) without being in a barely mobile walking coffin. Oh, neat, it even actually does damage, unlike all other companions and allies in the game! Wait, why it switched to mining laser? For 10 seconds, after which half of its parts are broken, it shuts down and costs a fortune to repair.
This can work with a large or tall starship as well, but it is harder to get your Exo to a stand on top.
Minotaur Cannon will then just rip up Broodlings and the Queen.
