There is no online at all in Night Slashers Remake.
One might ask then why Epic Online Services is used at all for this release then if its official purposes are not being realized? The software does have other uses like being able to determine the effect of targeted advertising on user systems and being able to track user engagement on linked accounts but that is what got a backlash against Red Shell.
Its a part of Epic's cloud services and cross platform tools. Generally, its main stated purpose is in enabling a free method of cross platform and cross-play services for other developers to use in their games. Steam already handles achievements and play locally on this storefront but you could use Epic Online Services to sync updates, achievements, or other social aspects for different platforms. The secondary purpose is more akin to Red Shell if you have heard about that software. The Epic Online Services collects information on installed computers and tracks user actions like web browsing, running applications, and gaming, social, the like and makes something akin to a digital fingerprint for that system and those users on it. This is a semi anonymous but relatively easy to correlate way of tracking what the game users are interested in, add engagement, as well as what entertainment might also be popular with the game's users. This information is then sent back to Epic servers which also communicate it with their partners or affiliates including being made available to developers.
I'm absolutely baffled!
