Yet another settings/priority idea
The Storage areas already have a priority button right? So, how about you simply implement this in all the production buildings? Easy fix! That way you can even prioritize closer production buildings vs further off ones.

Another idea would be a global task priority system which would be a second tab in the existing dude priority system. That way you can assign importance of cooking/production/etc. The problem is that you cant really specify produce THIS instead of that, and so forth.
