Hi, can you help explain this diplomatic outcome?
I thought that my (Ambiorix) contribution would outbid everyone but how come Shaka's vote came through?

Well, there were a total of 16 votes for outcome A. Out of those, the majority were for Shaka. That is how it determined the results. Quite simply, you were outvoted.

Is it not my 9 votes for option B vs Shaka's 4 votes for himself?

No. It's your 9 votes for option B versus 16 total votes for option A, so option A is chosen. Now, when determining the sub-vote of who gets the bonus, only the option A votes are counted, and Shaka's 4 is the highest total.

Exactly. First, the votes for option A or B are tallied. Then the decision is made among the winning resolution.

In order to defeat Shaka, you would have had to have put in 17 (or more) votes.
Thanks. Well, that's a weird way to vote, since everyone is voting for themselves but from what you say option A counts it collectively. It's like they all help each other while voting for themselves.
you dont get it it seems.
first is the question vanilla or choco icecream.
most ppl choose vanilla, you alone choose choco, so vanilla is what is buyed.
after that its subvoted under the ones who choose vanilla who will get the biggest part, you dont wanted vanilla, so you are out of that and get nothing.
its called voteing. most "legal" votes get the win.

That's one way of putting it, yes. Although it might be better to say that those voting for vanilla get sprinkles, since that is where the majority of those votes went. Still, those who voted chocolate get diddly squat.
I want peach

Play super Mario ?
No I get it, I just think it's not a good idea to apply this to votes about individual players.

Why even have option B at all, since everyone always votes for themselves so it's borderline impossible to have enough diplomatic points to make B happen? Have you seen AI ever vote for B?

You don't understand because you considere your way of playing as the only way of playing.
Have you considere team games ? 3v3v3v3 ? 4v4 ?
Have you considere multiplayer ?
How do you think diplomatic victory occurs in competitive games ? ^^

You can game the system that way, too.

If you know everyone is going to vote for Option A, then you also vote for Option A. You'll get a Diplomatic Victory point for agreeing with everyone else. And if it is the resolution where a person is awarded 2 victory points and you sink in enough diplomatic favor to vote for yourself, then you could end up with three!

That's fair, I didn't consider multiplayer.

Well, do you not think I have a valid reason to say it misses the point of the vote to do a split first on option A/B when it comes to voting for a specific player to get something, at least in singleplayer?
Seeing from the comments, maybe I'm the minority and everyone else is happy with this implementation. At least I know better how it works now.

Also, the AI isn't scripted to specifically pick the same thing every time. Instead, it assigns values to the possible choices and pick which ones it thinks are best - which may vary based on the game state. In the case of this diplomatic victory vote, the good options are "accelerate my win" or "stop my opponent from winning". And the latter just isn't a consideration unless someone is actually close to a diplomatic win.
