There is no reconnecting to a game.

yeah, reconnecting was broken when they made it cross-platform.

So turning off the cross-platform will help with the reconnect?

No. It's gone for good.

The problem isn't cross platform, it's that when it was added they broke the feature to reconnect. Sadly any connection hickups that last too long and you'll time out regardless.
