Helpful tips for a healthy Slugcat
Greetings friends and welcome to Rain World!

Rain World is a strange combination of survival and platformer genres. Hunt food, avoid predators, and search for shelter from the deadly rains! As you consume food items they are removed from the map, forcing you to explore deeper and deeper into the mysterious broken landscape of Rain World.

As a slugcat you are a soft squishy little creature, and while you do have projectiles such as rocks, rubble and spears at your disposal, head-to-head combat with dangerous predator creatures might not be the optimum strategy for new players. (AKA: they will wreck you.) Observe the behaviors of the creatures around you as well as the environment and learn how that can be used to your advantage!

While we intend to have the player learn to use environmental and sound cues to anticipate the coming of the rain, you can also bring up a “rain clock” in the bottom left of the map screen by holding the right shoulder button or the space bar.

During the early game, you will see a little yellow holographic creature helping you along the way. As well as giving hints for food and shelter locations, it can also guide you towards one of the main narrative arcs of the game. Or you could throw rocks at it and scare it away and set off on your own. Your choice!

There are an array of slugcat moves to be found. Most importantly is the pounce, which can be performed by first crouching, holding jump to charge, and then releasing. Wall jumps, backflips, rolls, slides and more can be found as well!

Rain World is truly a brutal place, and it is important to accept that death is an inevitable part of life. Do not be discouraged, little slugcat!

Cryptic expert hints for later in the game:

* Creatures know to fear the vultures by the masks they wear.

* When surrounded by darkness and despair, companionship will light your path.

* The smallest pebble can be the key to knowledge.

* A rare flower blooms near the beginning of Slugcat’s journey, and at its end.

* There is more to this world than you know.

Technical stuff:

All of Rain World’s creatures are animated using a unique physics-based procedural technique, which gives them oddly lifelike movements and behaviour. You will notice that tails drape over surfaces, bodies and limbs have individual weight and momentum, etc. But like any physics sandbox, occasionally this results in weird happenings like stretching and other oddities. As its a necessity of the engine, we like to think that its all part of the Rain World charm!

PC players should also note that if they want to change the controller type after first booting up the game, that needs to be done in the main options menu. The mouse + keyboard works in the menus as a fallback if they want to switch controls mid game.

Thank you for reading and good luck, little slugcat!

Very random question, but why can't you follow vultures after they catch you anymore?

Good call, I just finished playing for the night and I was thinking that we needed a sticky with pointers/tips and lo and behold.
Now, how about a minigun or maybe a rocket launcher?

How do you eat? I'm using a ps4 controller and square just seems to throw it away. Holding or mashing doesn't make any difference.

Can you never be friends with moon if you ate even just one of her little wisps.

You can fix her! I'm not sure where you are though, so don't want to spoil things too much, but if you find other neurons (those wisps) and bring them to her she will appreciate it

Hi, was roll taken out? I swear on release day I was rolling all the time, but now I've never seen it once, and my method of starting one; crouching, then flipping and holding down, no longer works. Am I crazy or did you patch it out?

For some reason the ps4 presets don't align with the in game diagram. I would just set it to the xbox preset.

You can roll, but only backwards. While facing right, crouch first and then press down-left. At least that's what I've found out.
