Steam Deck lost save files
Hi all,

I'm hoping to find some help with a recent problem. I was playing Final Fantasy IV Remake strictly on my steam deck and had 30+ hours on my saves. I installed the game on my laptop a couple weeks ago and tried to "stream" from my deck to my laptop. When I did that, there was no save data. I then tried loading the game right from my deck and there are no saves to load from

I tried turning off the cloud option on my deck with no luck. Can someone help point me to the right location on my deck to find the save files locally? I've tried looking from the Wiki game page:

<Steam-folder>/steamapps/compatdata/312750/pfx/[Note 1]

However I'm not sure what the Steam-Folder is supposed to be. Is that Home --> .steam --> steam --> steamapps --> compatdata ?

Any insight would be appreciated, I'd love to find my saves if they're sitting somewhere on my deck

Erin

I also played a lot of my steam deck and went to play on my pc and the only saves I had were the ones when I started playing on PC in the first cave!!!

I lost my dang post Demon Wall save and now I am so sad. I am trying to hack my save or if anyone has one I will certainly use another's to get me even kinda back to where I'm supposed to be.

How well does it run on the Deck? ive been debating between this and XIII because of the sale and having never played either. Ive played most of the others 1-3, 6-12, 14 and 15

The game runs great, didn't have any issues until this problem. I'm pretty biased as this is one of my favorite games but I've thoroughly enjoyed this version, they put in a bunch of cut scenes which are neat. I'd really recommend it if you're a fan. They also used a new version of the old soundtrack so it was pretty novel listening to the revamped tracks

It's amazing on there.... just don't try to play in more than one place and you'll be a-okay.

Ha, literally just had the same issue and came to see if there was a thread about it. I think it has to do with how I exited the game, when y'all close the launcher how do you do it? I think the problem is the force exit of the launcher, i've noticed that with some other games as well.

I wonder why the steam cloud works only one way. but glad I read this before trying to play it on PC. Guess I will be sticking to Deck. Kind of weird Steam doesn't have a "force save upload" for when you can't close the game down properly.

Just adding to this thread. I had about 14 hours of Final Fantasy 3 on Steam Deck, then I installed it onto my PC too see if my saved game would show up. It didnt ( which is what I expected). But when I went to play on the Steam Deck, the save game was completely gone and had to start from scratch.

Not angry at all, I consider it my fault. Just a warning to all! Losing say 50 hours would not be fun.

Just lost my save after trying to play on PC after having played on my Steam Deck. Fortunately, it was only a 1 hr save file. But I experienced this same issue with FF7 and lost a 10 hour save file. This doesn't happen with my other games. It seems Square has issues with implementing cloud saves correctly...

Now that I think about it, both this game and FF7 use a launcher. I wonder if something about it messes up the cloud saves.

It doesn't seem that the save file from steam deck gets downloaded on PC. It should be in the folder C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\FF4. But once you start the game on PC a new one gets created there.
