Yes, you should go ahead and play more than a few minutes before making judgement.
Not all art styles have to be similar. Realism is cool, but there are lots of other art styles and they are valid. You don't dismiss pixel games, do you? I did, back when I was a teenager. Thankfully I've outgrown this prejudice, and I wish the same for others who have it.
The way this game does not aim for realism, and instead opts to do its own thing, suits it SO much. More recent "El Paso, Elsewhere" does the same - and man does it deliver a tasteful mix.
