I'm terrified that I won't find anything on the level of Life is Strange. That this is the best game of its kind. I had that with World of Warcraft. I will never recapture the feeling of the glory days of WoW with 11 million players in the days of WOTLK. Before the days of smartphones and social media. However, I have all the games in the series except the latest one (of course I'll buy that one too), so hopefully I can at least find some consolation. I've heard Max is coming back in a new game, so I really, really hope this game will be good.
Given Dontnod's recent track record, Lost Records looks like it's shaping up to be a niche title with devoted followers, but won't resonate with average Joes on the same level as the original LiS. Unless somehow Dontnod catches lightning in a bottle twice.
The advantage of having waited so long is that you can play through all the chapters and Before the Storm and Farewell one after the other... which can lead to an emotional overdose.
With the new Double Exposure, Max is back, but it also brings flashbacks to the key scenes from LiS.
It's such a shame that you can only really enjoy games like this the first time you play them, if you don't know the story yet. On the second playthrough, you might be able to find items or text that you haven't yet discovered, or see the whole game from a different perspective.
Sad to hear about how $quare Enix & Deck Nine have handled things subsequently and am definitely not interested in the Double Exposure storyline. The original had a pretty satisfying and conclusive ending and bringing Max back in a setting other than in the timeline of Max & Chloe being together and trying to "make amends" somehow doesn't seem like it would ever work thematically for me. Bay choice should mean Max is never willing to meddle with the timeline again imo .
Only a few years after that did I upgrade to a gaming capable PC (i5 9300H, GTX 1050 MaxP, 3GB VRAM, Intel UHD 630, 16GB DDR4, 500GB SSD, Windows 11, FHD LED IPS), although I was playing other games before deciding to play this. If it weren't for me just letting Steam library to recommend what to play, I probably would've held off playing this until like 2030 or something lol.
If you are looking towards a game as special and where it also emotionally captures you in, I highly (!) suggest "Detroit: Become Human"!
