How to play the game with a controller

I want to play the game with a controller but as soon as i try to set up the Imput device it says that there are no imputs.

is this normal and if yes then how do i play the game, do i have to buy a special controller?

I think your controller might not work, try going into game controllers on your computer (search game controllers and you'll find it) and see if it's connected, if it is and it's not finding it then there might be something off.
