How to increase my limited essence pool?
Just getting back into the game, haven't played for quite some time. How do I increase the amount of mana I have to cast spells? My bar is only a small way along but seems to be limited there. Thanks.

More villagers = more influence.

What sort of number of new villagers should make a difference? I've gained a few but the bar hasn't moved.

It does... its just a very, very, very, very small increase. Like 1 pixel per couple people small.

It really does need an in-game tooltip explaining that all of that (and maybe showing your total mana)

Wow I've played for quite some time and barely gotten any new people so I can't see myself ever filling that bar, what a shame.

Your absolute maximum influence is 5,000, and each new villager adds 40. The bar itself is about 1,000 pixels wide, so every new villager only moves the bar about 8 pixels I believe. :)

AH thanks very much for the exact numbers, that makes things much easier to understand. Cheers Ray.

wait 40 each? i thought it was 20... oh no wait i thought it was 20 each cause i thought the meter was 2500, nevermind that makes sense.

though breaking it down math wise, your pixel count is actually a perfect forumla, 1000 pixels wide for the bar? treat that as 1K for the max, and each villager adds 8 pixels, same rates as 5K and 40, and my silly 2.5K and 20.

Edit: All the same, you need 250 villagers (and i believe children do not count towards the bar) which means each villager individually is worth about... .4% of the whole bar, assuming my math isnt atrocious, which it usually is when im trying to find the percent value of something.

The bar in InDev 30 is 40 each, in InDev 29f it is 20 each. Reason being is in InDev 30 you have a much lower population, so I had to make each villager worth more. :)

InDev 30 is due out tomorrow, but most of the core community is already playing InDev 30 Unstable 5, I should have clarified the difference. Whoops! :)
This works differently in the last version, though I cannot figure out how. My population raised to 50 while max influence went to 200.

You need to keep your villagers happy dude... don't beat them up too much, use positive spells around them... look for the little faith hand and the up or down arrow when you use spells. Holy Potatoes and Motivate Land are great early spells that increase their faith in you. Click on a villager, you can see how much faith they have... happy villagers = more faith = more influence.

It also really helps to focus on High Quality housing. Look at the 'bonus' on a maxed out High Occupancy vs the High Quality housing. My current villages are around 200-250 pops and have around 9k influence available.
