The PC (windows?) game is very poorly optimised. Even with everything on medium, my GTX4070ti can't chew thourgh this garbage, giving bad stutters, messing up camera view all the time. It's horrendous, the game even crashes every now and then in the middle of a stutter. The game crashes almost every time I interaction with a painting. Loading save games, phases, transitions all take forever to load. I expected better from the developers of X-COM.

And that's not even mentioning the balancing act of the boring 'base' phase (running around in a boring, stuttery abbey garden) and the admittedly very fun tactical missions. Or the tedious rehash of companions 'gifts' or 'compliments', sending team members on 'away' missions... ugh.

I am really on the fence if I should recommend this game.
I'm only begrudgingly doing so since there is no neutral and I liked the combat. I give it a D-. It doesn't completely fail but I only finished it in the end because I started it.

TL;DR If you're going to get this game, make sure it's a good sale. Just skip all the story parts, none of it matters to play the game. You'll miss out on some buffs but that's fine - none of them are critical. Play the combat parts and leave the rest.

I was excited for a Marvel game focused on the occult. So much so, I purchased the legendary edition at launch(silly, I know, I broke protocol). It took me 2 years to come back and finish this game.

Had a bunch of issues at launch, specifically with the 2K launcher. Game locked up and I didn't realize the launcher was opened in the background for a few days at one point. Overall, inflated my play time nearly 100 hours of idle running.
My save I continued was old so I have had issues with achievements from the start as well. You can see I have the achievement for obtaining all achievements yet, I'm missed 7 or so. Some of the achievements I don't have won't unlock and I've read I need to begin a NG+ and re-earn them. Also read for some, NG+ didn't work either. Not a huge deal to me really but to others it might be a deterrent.

The combat is fun and I didn't have an issue with the deck building parts of the game. I thought the abilities each character could receive were varied enough to give you some options while not letting you get caught up in hours of card selection. I liked the abilities chosen for each character as well; I thought they fit well.
I am a Marvel fan so I did like using the different characters to run around saving the world.
I thought the challenges for maxing your friendships were a fun addition and wish there was more of it.
Mild spoiler for the last battle; I especially liked the last fight of the main story. Fighting the harder waves, tagging in new members and shuffling cards as you progressed was fun.
Visuals for cuts were decent and made for some nice screenshots.
This game has both a dog and a cat you can pet - and you get rewarded for it.

The rest of the game left me a little let down though.
The pacing between the abbey and story made this feel like a drag.

The entire abbey portion of the game felt really tedious and killed the loop for me.
Collect orbs, upgrade/spar, research, decode intel/start hero ops, talk to everyone about side stuff for friendship points, join hangout/haven, explore the abbey grounds, etc...
I got to a point where I just run up to the side talk and smashed escape til they got to a prompt I needed to answer and did it again.

The writing, especially for the Hunter, was not the best either. I know they are supposed to be disconnected from the modern time, they just did not feel human. For being the talk of the town, the Hunter is the most flat personality no matter how you try and role. Main story moved too slow and I was waiting for it to end. I would have preferred if it had been broken out in a better way. I don't think the game was too long, just not paced to avoid going stale.

If I pick this game up again, I will probably just play the challenges.

I was really surprised by that one. Is actually a decent game. I would recommend it.

Massively underrated game.

This is one of the best games I've ever played in my life, and it's a shame it got weighed down by bad microtransactions on release. Once they released them as a bundle part of the legendary edition I loved it so much. We'll never get a part 2 and it's sad because this is absolutely the best Marvel game outside of Spiderman series.

Binary review choices suck. The core of this game, the combat, card collection, and character progression are all absolutely brilliant. I honestly cannot praise it enough. It's so much fun to work through your cards, deal with enemies with the environment, and play with each unique hero. I've spent 60+ hours in this game and not once in any combat encounter have I not been fully engrossed in it.

The problem though is the out of combat gameplay. Exploring the abbey feels a bit like a chore. I don't enjoy aimlessly wondering around looking for the next thing to advance this particular bit of story. I don't enjoy meandering looking for reagents. I don't enjoy the "puzzles" of using the corresponding shape that I find on the ground. The weird part about this is that most of my issues with these things could have been fixed with a HUD compass that showed you where you were and where nearby reagents are. In fact, everything outside of the core gameplay loop feels like a massive chore that grinds the fun to an absolute pulp.

However, the part that ultimately made me put down the game and say "I've played enough" was the story. Gameplay is king in my opinion but that can only carry so many hours of fun. The writing and characters are just so bad. Even the one's that are kind of well written and fun become irksome morons when the story tries to create internal conflict. For the most part though, it's just characters bickering among each other for petty reasons. It's as if the characters were all written to be 14 year old school children. For what it's worth, the DLC, while not good, is much more acceptable and is a decent ride.

I guess the bottom line is, I don't know if I should recommend this game or not. On one hand, the cardplay is fantastically amazing and is so much fun. On the other hand, you have so much boring garbage to get through to get to it. I sure hope that there's a sequel that fixes all the issues this game has because I'd love to get more of it.

Fantastic game for fans of xcom, marvel, or fire emblem. Game is a really fun and fresh combination of many different mechanics and everything gels together really well. Even the story is interesting! The actual combat is a really fun puzzle with tons of opportunities for synergy. Give this a chance and you won't be disappointed

This game was a disappointment for me because I'm a fan of X-com and not the card+deck style games. It's not like X-com at all other than it's turn based. And the story, just feels like a mandated money grab throwing together all the Marvel characters into one place so they can fight. I personally could not get into the game, but am glad many others were able to.

Although Midnight Suns could've done with a bit more polish in the graphics and audio department, especially towards the end of the game, this is a solid card game mixed with turn-based tactics where you get to play the hero leading a motley crew of Marvel superheroes in their quest to vanquish evil. Top voice acting talent, an epic soundtrack and a huge amount of characterisation and dialogue shows Firaxis went all in on this one, but despite all this, it looks like a sequel for the game isn't on the cards (no pun intended) and since the game ends on a cliffhanger, it's a damn shame.

This is a basic but incredibly engaging strategy game. The card element reminds me of MegaMan Battle Network and I love that it allows me to customize each heroes deck, maybe reworing them for a mission to be more situationally applicable. One of the games biggest criticisms is the Abbey- personally, I sort of enjoy this aspect of the game. I feel it should have been made a little more optional for people who dont like constantly having their strategy game interupted by slow paced slice of life moments. I think I'm about halfway through? The DLC characters are incredbly fun to play and the dlc story has some enjoyable cutscenes. The biggest thing I can say about this game- and ironic given its dire premise- is that this game is very cozy (outside the chaos of fights). The characters are all accurately written but also designed to more or less feel like youre just hanging out with your favorite marvel characters. I also do like the Hunter and as someone with complex familial history, their aspect of the narrative was certaintly the most compelling to me.

Only get this game if you like Marvel of course, but I dont think you need much strategy game experience to enjoy this. Its pretty accesible, and can actually be pretty easy to a degree if you do have experience with strategy games.
