Sid Meier's Civilization III: Complete

Sid Meier's Civilization III: Complete

What resolution do you play on
The only way I can get the game to launch is using "Keepres=1"
My desktop is 1920X1080 so everything in the game is tiny
I would like to play at a lower resolution
I tried the videomode command but it wont launch
Is there a way to play at a lower resolution

Try the below setup, may work for you.

1. You first go into your game folder:
Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization III Complete\Conquests

2. open " conquests.ini "

3. Add words below and save .

Videmode=1600
Playintro=0

4. Right click " civ3conquest.exe " in the same folder, then " Preferences ", then " Compatibility " and click " Change high DPI settings " to open new tap .

5. Check the bottom, " Override high DPI scaling behavior. Scaling performed by: " and choose " Application ". Then click ok.

If you get error or anything else, try to remove "Keepres=1".

No luck there
The only thing that works is Keepres=1
And it uses 1920X1080
Even with Videmode=1600 included

Thanks for suggestions

What res do you play at

Mine? I did not change anything regarding resolution, so I guess it is by default, should be 1024x768.

You can just try doing the Step 4 and 5 to set the dpi setting.
Remove " Keepres " and "Video mode", etc, may just keep "Playintro=0" in " conquests.ini ".

Also, I found that if I had set the compatible mode with window XP, I can not get the game to launch, so disable that thing if you had set it.

Or a foolish way, just change your desktop resolution everytime before you play the game if no solution comes out....

There is a typo. The right parameter is Videomode=1600.

Well spotted :steamthumbsup:

I had the correct line in my ini
So that is not the issue
I think my laptop is fixed to 1920X1080
Not sure how to unfix it

You can't. LCD monitors have a native panel resolution which is usually the maximum supported resolution,. You can set different resolutions, but a lot of older games like this have a different aspect ratio then what most more modern LCD monitors will support. If you try to set your resolution to an unsupported resolution by your monitor, videocard, or both, at best you'll get a black screen while the game loads everything but the visual elements. You could try setting your default resolution within windows itself to 720p. That's about as close as you're going to get to say, 800x600 with a modern monitor and might even be a resolution supported by the game as well; Civilization 3 came out about the same time HD LCD monitors were first coming on scene, so there's a chance that's a supported resolution the game, your monitor and onboard video can all support.

you do know you can zoom in within the game?

shift & Z
I play in 1600x900, which is the native resolution of a monitor I had left over from an old pc. It works flawlessly, fullscreen for the game, diplomacy, and city screen.
