Experimental Stuttering fix [Lower frame rate that being shown on counters]
Hi everyone,
We have noticed a handful of reports from players saying they are experiencing what appears to be a stuttering effect in game. This looks visually like a low frame rate, however the game itself it running at a much higher frame rate.

This issue is caused by a change in how often the physics system updates in the game, this was changed to help optimise the game further on lower end machines. But created a stuttering effect on higher end machines because of the difference between the physics update and the frame rate on screen.

After a lot of digging around, we believe we have found the issue and a possible fix.
However because of how critical this change is, we would greatly appreciate feedback on this possible solution and how it effects players experience within the game.

This experiment allows you to manually change the rate at which the physics updates. Of course changing these too much can have a dramatic effect on the game itself. Please follow the instructions below carefully.

If you are interested in checking this out and how you try this solution, please check out the following instructions.

Downloading the experimental build
- Open your library and locate Jalopy
- Right click on Jalopy and select "Properties"
- Click on the "BETAS" tab
- In the drop down menu, select "frameratetest"
- no password needs to be entered
- This should trigger an update

Setting launch options

- Open your library and locate Jalopy
- Right Click on Jalopy and select "Properties"
- In the general tab, click on "Set Launch Options"
- type in -fixedTime 0.01
- This will trigger the physics at 100 times a second (100fps)

We recommend trying the following numbers for certain target framerates

30 FPS - fixedTime 0.033
60 FPS - fixedTime 0.016
90 FPS - fixedTime 0.011
144 FPS - fixedTime 0.007

Please note that any changed outside of these can cause unwarrented effects. If you experience any issues, please remove the launch option for the game.
Please note that further

I just did some quick testing with the launch options. It definitely makes the game playable again.

-fixedTime 0.016 @60Hz with VSync on, was better than last update but still didn't seem quite as smooth as it should be, and also seemed to have a strange stutter that was visible when just walking one direction without moving the mouse. Could possibly be a problem specific to my setup.

Going by your set values of 0.01 for 100FPS, 0.011 for 90FPS ect., I tried out setting it to 0.014 and that felt better than 0.016 for 60FPS.

However even when locked to 60Hz with VSync I found that setting it to 0.007 felt the best out of all those options.

It works smooth now, thanks! Only what felt a bit weird that mouse was alot more sensitive.

Finally a fix for the framerate, what about the keys not saving ? (keys and dynamic lightning option is not saving)

EDIT : The launch options are mandatory for the framerate to be smooth, but with them it makes unwarrented effects as stated but still the only way to fix the framerate issue.

We were expecting some changes to the physics within the game but this is rather dramatic. We were not expecting the AI cars being on their heads.
The Keys and lighting options should be saving now? if not then it could be related to old save data preventing them from being correctly saved. We can look into this further though

please fix the steering wheel support, im using logitech g27 there is a massive deadzone making the game unplayable also the pedals dont work. please allow keybinding to pedal axis and add a deadzone and ffb slider if possible. until then i wont be playing the game and i wana lol. thanks.

I reverted back to normal after seeing the news about framerate being fixed, starting up the game somehow showed the right keys bound but after starting a new game the keys are reset.

Dynamic lights option is still not saved, I have to turn it back to on every game restart.

Car keys cannot be inserted while sat, have to get out of car' seat to be able to insert them

There are also some inconsistencies in the in-game french menu,
second option : "Redémarrer" : means restart (works)
third option : "Retour au menu" : means back to menu (it acts like a restart, isn't it supposed to go back to the main menu ?)
fourth option : "Sauvegarder et quitter" : means save and quit (to menu obviously since the last option is quit to desktop) works fine

Coming back a few years after hearing the game got out of early access to check what is new, and finding that the game is now trying to fry my laptop.
Is there a way to make the program use x amount of cores rather than maxing out my clock for a single core? I think it might have something to do with the physics change, because my laptop, even though powerful, is being pushed into the +80 ranges of temps on both GPU and CPU and my fans are at max as soon as I start the game.

I have tried turning down the graphics settings to minimum, and that gets me down to about 70 degrees on GPU, but I'm not seeing the options for a low end computer on startup... It just launches when done through Steam. Am I missing something?

OS: Win 10
CPU: Intel 8th gen I7-8750H
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060

This sucks because I want to play again, and I got excited when I saw wheel support in the options, but I can't even diagnose it without my laptop going haywire.

Edit: Found the option, you have to right click the game from the list to choose low end computer.

You do know that this game is dead right?

I was concerned this game was no longer being looked at. I have never been happier to be wrong
