For starters, you may want to spread fungs around so that your starter anims have an easier time surviving. Pick some (but not all!) fungs and plant them in the same type of terrain where you picked them. This is important, because those fungs are living and evolving too, and the ones you are given at the start can only survive on one type of terrain. Eventually they will evolve to take over every biome of your world.
Use the binoculars to study the characteristics and traits of the life forms in your world, this includes the zombs, who are also important parts of the ecosystem. Don't harm them! You'll only start a war with them. Avoid the zombs if they are bothering you, they are very easy to steer clear of.
Collect some of the eggs of your anims, in case of a mass extinction. Spread your anims around, try separating anims that have different body shapes. Those wrinkled anims are likely to be better suited for more wet environments, those that are smooth will retain their hydration longer and will do better on dry terrain.
Use the binoculars on your anims and watch how their brains evolve. Those brains are like little neural networks, and the shape of their connections determine how each anim will behave and react to the environment. You start out with anims that are pretty afraid of movement, but you may evolve some that seek out movement, which may even allow them to subsist on a more carnivorous diet!
Once you see your fungs evolving new colors, try to propagate more of those new colors. Fungs of different colors are very useful for crafting.
Try crafting walls and fences and gates and doors, this is helpful for separating creatures. But be careful, completely walling off areas that are too small will make it very hard for life to survive. It is best to keep walls open. Dense but open use of walls or rocks or fences can help fungs survive by making it harder for anims to over forage.
If you craft a camera, you will be able to photograph your world, and creatures that are the focus of a photo can be exported and traded with friends. You can even re-import them back into your own worlds. Some people even modify the genes before importing!
Make some beverages to help you. Beverages have many effects, like speeding up time, or warding off zombs, or attracting anims, or...
And join the Vilmonic Discord (https://discord.gg/vilmonic), there you'll find a lot of players that can help you. Many have become experts on the ecology of Vilmonic, some have even become experts on genetically modifying Vilmonic life...
I hope this helps!
