Only 50% of people escaped Mortuary?
Is that so hard to do, or what? I've escaped this fine establisment with ease, and i'm not even a good gamer

In some cases the people owning the game played and completed it before the achievements were incorporated. They simply haven't played it for a long time. Some others have purchased the game (probably when on sale) and simply have not started.

In short, they suck at this game

This game is from 1999. It is entirely possible that people played it in the decades before this version existed and they just wanted to support it.
In fact for me personally it was a reason to replay it.

Some players decided to stop and, just for fun, see if they could find their names in the Dead Book.

They're still there. Turning the pages, still looking....
Go look at the first achievement for any variety of games. People often buy games and never play them/haven't played them yet. Others simply don't enjoy the game and bounce off it and don't/can't refund.

I've seen way lower than 50% for much easier games where you essentially just have to boot it up.

Yeah it´s a classic game. I like Dakkon more than any characters in BG 3

I played Planescape: Torment multiple times in the years preceding its release on Steam. I only bought this version to support the game, but have not actually played it on the Steam platform.
You only count towards the statistics if you actually have played time logged on the game. That doesn't actually mean you *played* the game.

I don't know the history of this release on Steam so I don't know if it could be as simple as the achievements didn't exist before the game was added to steam (which is when most people usually play a game) but a big part is probably people who'd never played the game before trying it because they heard how good it was and not being able to play it - so, yeah, bad at games?

I'd wager Baldur's Gate 3 likely increased the sales of the classic games but is very, very different. Probably a good chunk of people played it and were unable to get used to the gameplay.
