Invisible Cubes Fix
Generally, we're seeing this issue on older graphics cards or integrated graphics cards, such as Intel HD 4400 and 5500

These cards don't support the rendering method we are using for the cubes and water in the game. This method allows us to render multiple instances of the object - basically you can see the cube AND the other versions of it in the repeated worlds.

The first thing to try is to update your graphics driver. This is going to be the solution in 80% of the cases.

If this doesn't work, you might have a GPU that is below spec. There is a way you can enable the renderer on the cube. It isn't ideal but should get the job done. Unfortunately, it's not saved in the setting, so you will need to do it each time you open the game.

Here are the steps:

1) Press ~ or ` to bring up the debug console. This might be different if you have a keyboard layout different than the typical latin alphabet one.

2) Type

toggle_slow_draw

Permanent Solution:

Beginning with version 1.1.0.14683, you can edit the settings.txt file to have a permanent fix.

Go to this folder:

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\William Chyr Studio\Manifold Garden

Open the file "Settings.txt"

Find this line:

slowdraw 0

change it to:

slowdraw 1

This should enable the alternate rendering permanently for you.

If you can’t find the line just go ahead and add “slowdraw 1” to the end of the file.

We're still doing some internal testing on 14683 but once it's all good we'll move it over to the main branch.

GTX 1060 and I get nothing but a blank tan (your background color, anyway) screen after clicking through the initial splash screen... same issue or different one?

That is a different issue. Do you mind starting a new thread with this issue? Happy to help you figure out what's going on.

When you say "initial splash screen", you mean you see the screen that says "MANIFOLD GARDEN - Press any key to begin" while camera is slowing moving through architecture, is that correct?

This might be a different issue but I was on a second playthrough and I went throug the first section as fast as I could, trying to use some speed tricks on it and when I got to the end of the first section the (god?) Dark Cube (that would mix with the white cube to make the blue cube) didn't spawn so I couldn't progress. I did leave my previous save right after getting the Red Distorty cube that is from the second stage.

I was thinking it might just be a variable overlapping through saves but it might be loading issues. Doing the guide did not help make the cube appear.

I also just noticed, dark realm effects are still taking place, the stairs are wobbling and the lines around objects are distorted and moving, like they would if I had the dark cube.

PS: if those dark realm effects were always just there, then MB, I probably only noticed after the outlines were highlighted.

Would it be possible to have it as a permanent setting?
I'm replaying the game now on steam after having first played it in january on epic and it's a bit disappointing that after months the issue still stands and I still need to input the command in the console everytime I start the game. Turns out I'm not even unlocking achievements because of that..

dalma: sorry this has been an inconvenience.

Having to input it each time is definitely frustrating. We will look into adding it in the settings page, or at least have it in the settings.txt file so you just adjust it once and don't have to input the command each time. The update will go out for all PC platforms.

We had actually hoped to detect machine settings and automatically toggle the feature. It worked for some machines with Intel HD Graphics 4400, but not all of them.

These are the CPU/GPU combinations that automatically enable the alternative rendering:
  1. Intel® Core™ i7-4510U / Intel® HD Graphics 4400
  2. Intel® Core™ i7-4510U / Intel® HD Graphics 4400
  3. Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4510U/ Intel® HD Graphics 4400
  4. Intel® Core™ i7-4510U / Intel® HD Graphics 4400
This is one (that we know of) that doesn't yet:
  1. Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4005U / Intel® HD Graphics 4400
@dalma can you let us know what CPU + GPU combo you have? We can look into adding it to the list to be automatically detected, but will also look into making it a permanent option.

@dalma We've added a fix in the beta branch of the game. To access this, right click Manifold Garden in your steam library, then go to "Properties", and then "Betas" tab.

Select the branch "beta - Private beta". No access code is necessary.

This should be version 1.1.0.14683.

Go to this folder:

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\William Chyr Studio\Manifold Garden

Open the file "Settings.txt"

Add this line:

slowdraw 1

This should enable the alternate rendering permanently for you.

We're still doing some internal testing on 14683 but once it's all good we'll move it over to the main branch.
