Frequently Asked Questions

What is Quantum Break?
Check out the store page for a detailed description.

TL;DR: Quantum Break is a combination of a cinematic 3rd person action shooter and a live action show. You get to play both the hero and the villain, trying to stop the end of time while making choices that shape the story both in the game and the show.

What’s the difference between the DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 versions?
Game performance can vary by hardware configuration and the maturity of the video drivers, and how they are optimised for different versions of DirectX. The overall gameplay experience will be the same across both versions of the game.

Why is the DirectX 12 version only available on the Windows Store?
The Windows Store version of the game was developed to take full advantage of Windows 10 and DirectX 12. The Steam version was developed to support older versions of Windows and DirectX.

Will you be providing a free Steam key for those who already own the game in the Windows Store?
No, players who are interested in picking up the Steam version of the game must make their purchase through Steam.

How is the live-action show included in the game?
The show consists of four ~22 minute live-action episodes that are spread between the five acts of the game. The choices you make in the game will change the live-action show as well; that means that there are multiple versions of each of the four live-action episodes, making up 75 Gb of 4K video. The live-action show episodes aren’t included in the game installation, instead they’re streamed and the video player adjusts the stream quality based on your online connection.

How well does the game run on my system?
The best way to know how the game runs on your system is to test it yourself. Make sure your system meets the minimum or preferably recommended system specifications listed on the store page.

Can my system run the game with maxed out settings?
To get the most out of your system, adjust the game’s display settings accordingly. Some video driver software automatically adjusts the settings based on your hardware. The scale of the game’s display settings isn’t meant to be limited for a specific generation of PC hardware. If you want to benchmark your system, there are plenty of great software available just for that purpose.

Does the game render in a native resolution?
When upscaling is turned on in the game’s display settings, the game outputs a temporal reconstruction from four previous lower resolution 4x MSAA frames. This approach gets us high pixel quality in combination with complex shading and effects. The game’s engine takes full advantage of the reconstruction technique, and while turning upscaling off makes the game render in native resolution, it’s also extremely demanding performance-wise.

Does the game support mGPU?
Due to the game’s engine architecture, multi-GPU (mGPU) rendering isn’t supported.

Are you planning to improve performance of the game on PC?
The game received several updates since it launched on the Windows Store in April. All the updates are included in the Steam version, and we’ll continue to monitor performance and ensure players have a great experience with the game.

Known Issues

I can’t see my display resolution listed in the game’s display settings.
The game might not always detect all available display resolutions at first launch. Close the game application, go to Windows display or display driver settings, temporarily change your display resolution to another one, then change it back to the original setting. Relaunch the game, and the current resolution should be available in the settings.

The game crashed while watching an episode of the live-action show.
Make sure to close all background applications when watching the live-action episodes. The in-game video player is CPU-heavy, so other applications e.g. video capture software might cause issues.

The ending of the game is (literally) killing me
If you need help with the ending of the game, there's a spoiler-filled topic discussing it.
