If i put stuff in a chest in a castle I control, if I lose the castle, what happens to the items in the chest?

Just got the game and have been enjoying it, but am kinda lost on what to be doing now. I've gotten my starting area pretty low on quests and it takes a while for new ones so I tried going to an adjacent area but enemies there seem wayyyy stronger and beyond my level. Should I just be staying in my starting kingdom? I'm not making enough money there now though....

hey, is there any way to get dark sister sword ?

I think I got the hang of the combat on foot, but for the life of me, I cannot hit anything at all on horseback. Even with a 2 hander. I've tried to no avail. Is there a way to train this at all?
