We're talking early 2000s internet. So a lot of the good stuff just isn't there. And the internet was considerably smaller back then too.

2000s Internet had more diverse content than today. That was before everything was consolidated into a few popular platforms.

i remember the first time i ever played half life 2, after the water canals in the air boat when you get to the lab and you meet judy. i was amped "yes! they're giving me an intellectual mommy gf who recognizes my obvious greatness in the field of theoretical physics!" and then alyx came off that elevator and before she even said a word i was instantly crushed, i had completely forgotten about her, and now, i was not only being forced to remember her, but i just knew they were going to force her on me and that she was going to have to be my gf and i was just bummed the ♥♥♥♥ out about it.
