glyph of calcification does not work when moving an element over it

not even into the actual levels and i'm already confused because in the animation it shows an arm just moving over the glyph and calcifying it, but when i try to do that nothing happens. i managed to get past it by ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with the place i put it in randomly, but now i'm in the second level and i don't have any way to make it work. please help.

The atom needs be on top of the glyph at the end of a cycle for the glyph to activate. Just swinging it across is not enough. In the animation there are two separate rotations: one moving the atom onto the glyph and one moving it away from the glyph.
