Who were the lords before they got their souls?
In the opening cinematic we see that lords who came from the dark - look like hollows, and pygmy look like human. Does it mean that humans and the hollows were created by the dark at the same time? Or all of them were humans, but only three of them took "the lord's souls" while pygmy got the dark soul and shared it with others?

"then there was Fire and with fire came disparity. Heat and cold, life and death, and of course, light and dark. Then from the dark, They came, and found the Souls of Lords within the flame."

"They" are the original humans. Humans are beings born of Dark. Gwyn found the Soul of Sunlight and became a god. Nito found the Soul of Death and became a god. The Witch of Izalith found the Soul of Fire and became a god.

The Furtive Pygmy found the Soul of Dark, and scattered it to his descendants, creating humankind as we know it now.

Those were the Lords who ruled their own domains before Gwyn's Age. When Gwyn conquered most of the dragons and ushered in the age of fire, he then decided to spare these ancient Lords and give them a piece of the Great Soul pie before going into self imposed exile.
