Unfortunately I don't remember exactly how I solved it, but I do vaguely remember that I had some trouble highlighting the Bible verses.

Make sure you are highlighting properly:

Click on the first letter of the verse and slowly drag across to the end making a single line of yellow circles that slightly overlap each other at the edges. Release once you reach the end of the verse and the letters should glow yellow and George will read the verse out loud.

I found the same thing and unfortunately I still could not get it to work after trying this :( It seems to be a bit of luck and a lot of continuous trying, very frustrating.

As a last resort, did you look for a video on YouTube?

I'm watching one where the streamer struggles a little bit too, but at the end it works out.
Of course it would be a spoiler, but maybe seeing how to highlight the first verse can help you.
