I try to like this, but it's so slow and clunky and the wait timers would be more at home in mobile gaming.

Thematically it's funny and I appreciate the dark humor, but it feels too much like I'm playing a facebook social media game from the year 2008 than it does a real game released in 2018.

It also doesn't help that I have fond memories of Mr. Jones' Graveyard Shift, another graveyard sim with quirky dark humor, but it came out in 2009, looks better than this and has more fun game play; it also costs a third what this game does.

In an industry packed with so many game choices, I just can't recommend this when I can name a similar game that's a decade older, looks better and costs less; and doesn't have the janky wait mechanics.

If you like the pixel art and want a game that you can play casually while watching TV, maybe you'll find some use for this, but try to get it on sale. It's over priced for what it is.

I want to recommend this game, I really do, but I can't. Mostly because of the grind for simple tasks and a major bug I encountered only 4 hours in that made progressing with one of the NPC goals impossible. Much to my dismay because underneath those frustrating roadblocks there is a unique challenging sim that I do enjoy.

The good:
- The skill tree to improve your knowledge and progress with crafting more items to build and repair other structures is quite complex. Unlocked by earning three different colors of skill points(?), the blue being the hardest to get and cannot receive until you unlock the church. I particularly like the skill tree system being this complex and not quite so linear like in other games.
- No hand holding! Too many games these days hold your hand for far too long in getting started. There are no tutorials here. A few introductions on what to do, but for the most part you're on your own for figuring it all out. There are plenty of wikiguides online to reference if you need help. Some people hate these challenges. I particularly enjoy it.
- Beautiful pixel art and some dark humor

The bad:
- The grind is real. Not that I always mind grinding, but when you have to chop down a tree and only carry one log back to put in your storage, only to cut it further using one of the many tools you need to obtain a certain piece of wood material (plank, beam, etc.) and go back and grab the other log, so on and so forth -- that is unnecessary and annoying. Gathering materials and crafting items to build and repair is a constant back and forth tedious mission in itself that you spend very little time tackling other NPC tasks or even being an actual graveyard keeper.
- Unnecessary roundabout ways to obtain certain items. Similar to what I mentioned above, obtaining or crafting certain materials requires certain tools which are unlocked via your skill tree. The skill tree isn't bad at all and I do like it. What I don't like is that I need several different tools to craft all these other things. Why? Why can't I use and only need one or two different tools to get several different types of wood materials? Also, if I'm obtaining water from a well, why does it appear in my inventory as a bucket of water? I need water to make bread, but I don't have water in my inventory? I have to right click on the bucket of water to "use" and then I get water??? What???
- I hate having to walk everywhere with no way of getting the option to sprint or even unlock a donkey to ride. The very game cover shows your graveyard keeper riding a donkey. I want my donkey, damn it!
- Inventory is too small and no way to make it bigger without mods
- I unfortunately ran into a terrible bug where the days shown on the calendar wheel did not match what day it was in the game. I spent a dozen in-game days trying to figure out why I could not find the merchant and why he never showed up in town in order to advance this task. I had already opened up the path to Witch Hill, so I double checked the day on the portal and lo and behold I realized that the game was not syncing to the calendar wheel. Spent a night in front of the portal to see if I could get the days to sync and nope. It jumped from Sun to something else I can't remember, but not in the order it should've been. Despite closing my game and restarting it a few times and repeating this procedure, my game days will not sync to the calendar wheel. I don't know if restarting my whole game would help or not but I feel I shouldn't have to do that. The fact that this is a six year old game now and this pretty major bug exists is not good and is a deal breaker for me.

This game is incredible. The visuals are beautiful, the music is captivating, the writing is incredibly witty and funny and insightful. The DLCs make it a lot better and enrich the story too. Worth every penny at full price. What a great and rewarding adventure it was.
