So can you get VAC banned ?

I've played several of the challenges, and I've noticed that when I haven't played that particular challenge yet, my score shows up on leaderboard. But a few times in playing a challenge that I already have a room score on leaderboard, and surpassing that particular room number, nothing changes at all. My lower room score stays, but my higher score doesn't show up at all. Any ideas why?...

So, what can actually trigger VAC? I mean, which type of action I don't need to do to become a VACbanned? Can I have a VAC-ban, using some programms in SinglePlayer? Or it anyways triggers even in a SP? upd.* I asking for reason, if I'll have fatigue to farm something in game, so, I can easily change some values(not statistics) to avoid boring farm. I don't want to have a VAC ban on my main account, just want to have fun in any form of this word. I don't have a purpose to cheat in online lobbi...

I'm on the final stretch to push version 0.3.7h shortly. The update will be implementing Steam Input natively into the game, for players who wish to use it with their controllers. There are some Steamworks backend changes I need to make just before the update goes live. Such changes might break current controller support – I'm not 100% sure.
