A great Castlevania hommage with stunning graphics that will appease beginners, seasonal or hardcore players of this genre. You can see there's a great deal of passion that was included in the making of this game as it's very polished and content heavy.

The default story of this game is moderate in difficulty. Most of the unlocked characters post completion are quite a challenge to play as they have their own perks and play style. I did not finish any of them yet unfortunately as either I was stuck or it was too difficult for me, but even at this point, I had way more that I could imagine for my money.

Any Metroidvania fan should absolutely buy this!

this is by all accounts a castlevania game in everything but name, it is the biggest love letter to fans I have ever seen out of a gaming franchise, this is the best castlevania game right now it is a masterpiece by all accounts, try to go as blindly as possible because and especially if you have knowledge of previous entries you're in for a great time

The mechanics feel pretty cluncky, at least on keyboard, maybe the game is supposed to be played on a controller

Bloodstained ritual of the night is very similar to the ds Castlevania games, which is high praise as i place those in very high regard. Any gamer that love metroidvania games with food preparing and collecting, this game is for you

I picked this up through a Humble Bundle at some point, and it's sat in my library since. Finally found some time to give it a shot, and oh boy, was I disappointed.

To preface, it's possible that I'm not giving it a fair shake, and that perhaps the first level and narrative introduction don't represent the rest of the title. I know that can happen, like when you tell a friend to "get past the first season" of that one show you love so much. But here, my first 40 minutes were so dreadfully mundane that I couldn't imagine spending any further time in the game. So here were my issues with it:

1) Odd that I couldn't choose a more difficult mode than Normal when first starting the game. Maybe Bloodstained is trying to emulate every part of that retro feel by making that an unlock, but I don't think it's necessary.
2) The game's narrative introduction is awful. It's well and good to introduce the story of a game to a player through a cutscene, but if suddenly I have to deal with extensive dialogue right after that to be brought up to speed on the narrative, then that cutscene simply did not do its job.
3) The game's animated cinematics are very clunky in many ways; the panning has no consistency, and they fail to give you all of the relevant information needed to be clear and feel good. For example, in one moment after the first level, your character saves a woman and child in a very quick cutscene, without really showing that, and so you must infer that that's what happened. Why the game doesn't let the PLAYER save these NPCs, I don't know. DO NOT TAKE CONTROL AWAY FROM THE PLAYER UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.
4) The tutorial phase leaves more to be desired. The game simply did not explain shards well enough to me, despite clearly being a central mechanic of the game.
5) Every time you level up (which is unbearably often), the game is paused while an animation plays to let you know that. Why the pause? Let me keep playing. Again, stop taking control away from the player.

Maybe someday I'll come around again and try to give it a "fairer" shake. I doubt it, though. It just did not impress me.

Bought this to support the creator of one of my favorite games, I just wish it was even remotely comparable in quality.

Not really a nice game with this high price. Not worth its value

The game is very fun and the large amount of possible builds helps you to never get bored, I guess my only complain is that the game felt too short xd, If this game managed to get your attention you should play it

One of the best castlevania/metroidvania out there. Absolutely recommend.
