12/10. Epic zombie shooter

Zombie Army 4 is an action-packed, polished zombie shooter that delivers much of the same satisfying gameplay as its predecessor, Zombie Army Trilogy. The mechanics are tight, and the game is well-optimized, giving you a fast-paced and immersive experience. While there are noticeable improvements, don't expect it to stray too far from the formula of the previous games – it's essentially more of the same, but with a fresher feel.

One of the highlights is the ability to upgrade and customize your weapons and character, with heavy-hitting options like a minigun, flamethrower, and even a butcher saw. The variety of enemies keeps the action engaging, with new mechanics and challenges thrown in to prevent things from becoming too repetitive. Despite its similarities to the Trilogy, Zombie Army 4 manages to keep players on their toes with its constantly evolving threats.

The campaign itself consists of 9 missions, each with 4 chapters, giving you around 15 hours of gameplay on your first run. While the base game may not be extremely lengthy, the addition of three Season Passes – each containing 9 more missions – effectively doubles the total playtime to around 25-30 hours.

Unfortunately, the game's DLC model is a major downside. Even though the first Season Pass is now free, and many DLCs have been discounted or included, unlocking everything still comes with a hefty price tag of around $300. This is a major drawback, and for many players, it’s hard to justify the full price.

That said, if you can grab it during a big sale (as I did), Zombie Army 4 becomes a lot more appealing. It offers a fun and engaging zombie shooter experience, but I wouldn’t recommend paying full price due to the predatory DLC model. Waiting for a sale is the best way to go.
