This is a Linux issue. I have the same problem running Fedora 40 on my desktop. I don't know if the devs are going to fix it since I believe Linux is not supported but I have been playing fine with my friends with a workaround.

First, you must know what you are able to do right now:

-You CAN talk in game with friends

And this is what you cannot do:
-You CANNOT talk in the lobby with your friends
-You CANNOT use spirit box.

To circumvent this, I call my friends using Steam Voice Chat to be able to talk in the lobby. Once inside a game, I mute Steam Voice microphone and silence friends to not hear them double. To use spirit box and other items, I changed to using text commands.

I know it is not ideal but better than nothing while waiting for a possible fix.

Thank you for this. I will do this, but the developers need to fix this!

This is hefty debate about Steam deck, i can use the voice, lobby included. the only things i can't use are Voice Recognition related items. however the spirit box itself does in fact detect my microphone, i just never get a response, which contradictingly confuses my unimaginably. The issues with the chat are relatively new. the voice recognition are rather old.

Same issues here on the Deck using Windows voice recog in the settings. Vivox setting doesn't even detect the mic.

i have something similar to this, the spirit box most of the time just doesnt respond at all, and on the tier 3 spirit box, the red "response" line is meant to glow red, but then i just noticed that instead of the response light, the voice activation light blinked for the same time the response light would, it was on, and then it blinked off for around a second, then it went back on, but then sometimes spirit box is normal, and gives me responses
