How ironic.
Are you playing with EN audio? The translation and dub is pretty mediocre.
This game has pretty amazing (actually amazing, when compared to movies and books) writing but it requires using the JP voicetrack to get it across to the player.
That said, I frown when someone writes ''cringe'' and ''cringeworthy''.
Why?
Because ''cringe'' is something inside of people themselves. If you Cringe at something, that is you being awkward and problematic and not willing to face whatever your dealing with, not whatever you consider ''cringe'' being a problem.
Childish? Its the most mature game ive played in a while. Actually if anything it feels like the characters are way more mature then they have a right to be given the context. Where does Alphen gain that much Wisdom from when he has no memories? Or Kisara when she was so blind to reality before?
What? That is opposite to the reality. This game has far better writing and delivery then the majority of games.
Again I have to ask if you played this game in EN voice and reading just the EN dialogue, because if so you are really making the experience worse for yourself.
If manga/anime really want to grow larger, they should tone down the "shounen" cliches, make less of these anime/manga, and promote the seinen & other genre for adults. They can start with banning One Piece, Naruto, Fairy Tails (Edens' Zero), and adapt Parallel Paradise into anime.
I'm not sure why you consider themes of slavery and racial repression to be Shounen.
It can be. Just like how the themes of pirates, ninja, wizards can be shounen.
If the revolutionaries act and talk like Alphen and Law, it's more than enough to make it a shounen story.
Party: ''..''
Alphen, the overly optimistic and also positive Shounen MC. He doesnt sound like it much?
Alphen isnt really that shounen. He's just an idealist.I dont know why you'd consider someone being idealistic to be a clear sign of a shounen story.
Its actually refreshingly 'mature' that the party discusses what happens after their struggles and actually deals with some serious issues without just laughing it off (like shounen does) or pretending that ignoring those issues and living on as a broken being is fine. (which is common in seinen)
Law is definately very shounen, but its in his character. He's literally a shounen after all.
ruined his whole career good job brother
Suspension of disbelief can cover almost anything, no matter how crazy. That has nothing to do with JRPGs, it applies to all works of fiction. It has to be done right to achieve the desired effect, but that is where Arise’s plot fails: The story has logical and pacing issues; some characters appear a bit shallow, others absolutely one-dimensional; the world feels like a stage prepared for the player: small, and later areas empty, sparsely populated and not really alive.
Having a powerful, scary villain show up early is often a safe choice in storytelling. I can’t tell if Arise actually doesn’t want to make use of that or if it tries and fails spectacularly: There is one adversary who appears a few times throughout the game, but his first appearance happens pretty late and doesn’t tell anything about him or his plans. At least for me, the first contact left one clear impression: he is neither strong nor dangerous (there is a particular slime in realm 2 that was much harder and scarier).
so i even can use 1 paragraph to describe all stories, no surprise, perhaps just use 1 senstence, to defeat 5 lords then find 3 big secrets, then end. it's simple, hahaha
but the game's skit is fun, the biggest selling point is skit i think, the game has 1 achievements that is to watch 300 skits, yeah, in later stages of the games, if you travel back to the prievious maps, you might trigger some skits, it's really fun and enjoyable or likeable

This scene needs to be added into the most cringy anime moments Hall of Fame, along with those crying scenes from One Piece.
