Insanely Boring and does NOT Hold up
Im 34 and not new to this type of game. I even grew up with it and was aware of it when it came out. I recently decided to give it a good run and holy ****, this game is insanely slow and boring. The dialogue is painful, combat is bad, graphics are bad, and its 30 fps. lol. Ill stick to Yakuza. Hopefully the second is more "fun". I recall renting the second and I did recall it being more fun lol. The 3rd will at least have playable combat.

What a disappointing experience...But I am aware it is 20 + years old at this point. In the 90s this was certainly unique enough to warrant some of the slower mechanics

I started the 2 recently and i find it boring for now compared to the first. Big city and nothing to do, feel much more impersonal.

If you are only 34, you would have only been about 7 yrs old lol You wouldn't have known how good this game was. I love everything about this game. Everything you hate, I love(apart from 30fps!). And slow might be boring for you, but not for me.
Over the top, strange action like Yakuza is insanely boring to me.

This game is a cult classic dude and is liked by many people. Your opinion is wrong. 1 and 2 are great immersive games.

1 is good, has a good story based in Japan and is a very good game.

2 is even better based in mainland China. 2 has a lot more immersion in it and just little things that flesh the game out more. The little interactive things you can do and just more items to interact with in general.

If anything 3 is the worst and true fans won't like it. I know personally it does not even interest me and i don't own it. 3 just does not have the same vibe as the first two which are masterpiece works.

I think also if you have certain expectations of the game then yes you will just think its not good.
This game is not meant to be action packed. The game is about being an interactive story the immerses the player in the plot. If you don't like plot in games then you wont like this games.

This games dialog is not painful at all there is plenty of games that are worse, At the same time comes and plays a game that is about dialogue and complains about that go figure.

This game is iconic dude and many ppl love this game.

Im not wrong. You are lol

the dialogue is wooden, voice acting straight up bad, and this game is just a tedious slog. Why assume I "dont like story"??? This game is just boring and I expect an entertaining game. It's literally just, go talk to this person, then this person, then this person, then bad combat, all at a garbage 30 fps lol. No thanks. yakuza 0 has a way better story too

People only love it because of nostalgia end of story. This does not hold up
Nebgama 30 Sep, 2024 @ 12:53pm
it holds up dude, what you say is irrelevant because many ppl would disagree with your opinion.

Ryo Hazuki is also an Iconic Character dude and he is the face of an entire era. I would also go as far as to say that he is the "Face" of SEGA's Dreamcast just like Mario is for Nintendo.

People like Ryo and his story and the Shenmue games and there is many people globally that like it. You don't have to come in here and tell everyone that you have self induced adhd from scrolling and cannot concentrate on a interactive story game for more than 2 secs.

if you think the dialogue in this game is heavy you wrong. This is light comparerd to many other games in its genre. There is some novel games that literally take like 30 minutes of dialogue before you even get to do anything.

If you also think the game is bad and does not hold up then you also wrong. The game holds up extremely well and actually runs better than the original version.

You don't have to like the game that is fine but at the same time you don't need to come in here just to tell us that, and then expect others to agree with you.

People who compare this to Yakuza don't understand what Shenmue did.

I want to reshape partly what i said in the earlier post and that the reamake does hold up extremely well today and technically is improved and does run better than the origianl.

At the same time the original is a masterpiece and playing it on the hardware of its time using the original version does hold up just as well because all the nuances to the game like the FPS and the engine and how the dreamcast works and all the techniques they used to get the game working. All these
actually give the game a level of character that we miss out on when using the remake.

So many nostalgia blinded people in here trying really hard to cope with the fact that their game really doesnt hold up. It is a slog. Go talk to this person, then this person, then QTE fight scene + normal fight scene with out dated and bad combat lol. I wont say this was bad when it came out. I see how it was cool back then, but now? No way. At least make it 60 fps JFC

They are insanely similar. Thats why people compare them. Im not new to shenmue. I own the physical dreamcast version. Its just not that good and never was as good as people made it out to be

In terms of the tech of the time shenmu impressive, obviously not by current standards since a lot of games can do what shenmue does. As for yakuza, we’ll from 3 onwards which was around ps3 it was doing what this game did. Least it’s a complete narrative compared to the entire series of 3 games that have gone no where.

Beautiful games, music, art direction, overall chill vibes, not as loud as Yakuzas. True hidden gems if ur looking for classic adventure jrpg
