If you like Heaven's Vault, try Chants of Sennaar demo
Chants of Sennaar has the same gameplay as Heaven's Vault. Explore to find and compare inscriptions to decipher each word. Try the demo.

Looks just like a puzzle game. Has the language any depth?

it is a puzzle game (with stealth sections because... reasons?)
the language aspect is fairly shallow, but it fits very well, it's fun, and relatively well done

Idk, I played the demo the other day and it just made me want to play Heaven's Vault again.

i've 100%ed this one, stealth sections are there to set up a context (must not see, etc...)

it's definitely not the same game, once you completed CoS, you are not left with that feeling that compells you to go back for it in a ng+ ( and ng++ and ng +++++, ... ) at the end of cos, you know all the lore, end of the game.

with HV, i'm at my 7th ng+ and i'm still feeling i've left an important intel behind

While I broadly agree with this sentiment I think it's mostly an indictment of Heaven's Vault. It keeps stuff from the player through hostile design and pointless time wasting.
As someone who played CoS and is now trying Heaven's vault, I don't agree really. CoS is not loopable by any means, it's more of a one-and-done game where once you complete it there's not really any replay value unless you forget how the entire game goes. CoS also focuses on puzzles and direct translation than subtly building up language over time. They're both good games, I love them both. It's just not comparable, though. I wonder if someone could mod CoS to have the same extent of language that HV does...
