Nuclear Winter is back!

Nuclear Winter kicks off today (October 17th, 2024) at 3 PM (CEST) and runs until Monday, October 21st, at 10 AM (CEST).

To be eligible for a ticket, players must be at least level 5 and have actively participated within the last 60 days. You can redeem your ticket for either a standard 1x speed map or a fast-paced 4x speed version. Unused tickets will expire and won’t carry over to future events.

(It's important to note that once the country selection screen is displayed, the ticket is considered used)

It's been a long wonderful journey filled with highs and lows, hard work and a great family. What once was a dream is now a reality that is growing by the day. Today, we’ve reached a significant milestone, bringing back countless memories that make it almost unbelievable to see how far we’ve come ,where we are now and where we are headed.

Dorado Games has come a long way in the past 10 years. What started from a vision has now become a talented team of over 40 members. Conflict of Nations wasn't the first game Dorado developed. A lot of hard work on previous projects led us to eventually create one of the top real-time war strategy games out there. While working for a game development company might sound fun(which it is), developing a game is far from simple. This isn't your typical 9-to-5 job where you can easily pick up where you left off the next day. Game development is a continuous effort that requires immense passion, drive, and creative qualities that are hard to find.

The Dorado team embodies this spirit. A passionate group brought together by a shared love for the game. Fast forward a few years, and we’ve grown into a thriving, active community with many developments on the horizon.

We’re not highlighting these milestones to brag, we see them as a stepping stone, as there’s still so much more to come for Conflict of Nations. We're just getting started! The real reason we’re saying this is to acknowledge that as much as the dorado team pushes the envelope, none of it would have been possible without you. A game is only as strong as its community, and we’re incredibly lucky to have a loyal player base that has helped us grow. Middle East Conflict Scenario


Following the success of BG USA and Flashpoint, we decided to explore the Middle East and engage its dedicated player base. To shape the focus of the map, we reached out to our players and consulted industry experts whose insights proved invaluable. Throughout the development process, we went through several iterations and made numerous changes, especially in determining which countries would be AI-controlled and which would be playable. This collaborative approach allowed us to create a rich and immersive experience that reflects the unique dynamics of the region, making it a thrilling addition to our lineup!

Squadron Cycle Scenario

Squadron Cycle was created as a platform for us to explore a variety of starting unit setups, giving us the opportunity to experiment and test out new ideas. Players embraced Squadron Cycle because of its unpredictability as each iteration brought a fresh starting lineup that kept everyone on their toes.

We also had a blast interacting with our Discord community, where we welcomed player suggestions and made them happen, no matter how wild the ideas might be. It feels only fitting that this iteration of Squadron Cycle showcases the diverse range of seasonal units we’ve released over the years, bringing together the creativity of our team and the enthusiasm of our players into a dynamic and engaging scenario!

Attention Commanders

In this update we are bringing back missions to help you master drone warfare and maximize your chances of survival. In this season’s missions you will learn how to unlock and deploy each drone type effectively, discover powerful combinations of drones and traditional units to strengthen your forces whilst reclaiming lost ground from zombie control.

We were also busy working on some notable changes and fixes! We tackled the Satellite issue when using the zoom feature and resolved various UI issues including blank screens in several menus and incorrect heal button visibility. Alongside these, general pop-up visuals and image alignment have been improved for a smoother, more polished interface, with further enhancements to design and scaling across the game. Some changes include the removal of the ability to lower ally morale, enhanced visuals for mountain terrain on mobile, and adjustments to how neutral UAV interactions work. Additionally, we’ve streamlined province management by removing Local Industry upgrades from resource-free provinces.

Changes

• You can now use Gold to purchase Warheads and Deployables
• Players can no longer reduce the morale of their allies
• Enhanced mountain terrain visuals on mobile for a more immersive and visually appealing landscape.
• Shooting down a neutral UAV will no longer automatically trigger a declaration of war, improving neutral interactions.
• Removed Local Industry upgrades from provinces that do not produce resources

• Fixed issue with satellite visibility when zooming in or out.
• Fixed blank screen issue when accessing the Seasons tab.
• Fixed alignment of the Province bar on desktop.
• Fixed an issue where the heal button appeared on fully healed units.
• Fixed terrain health information not displaying properly.
• Fixed blank screen problem when opening the "New Matches" tab.
• Fixed display issue on alliance challenge screen.
• Fixed issue where the trade menu didn't display the correct options for non-coalition players.

Antarctica Scenario

Antarctica was a project that began around 5 years ago, with three map designers contributing to its development. This project took particularly long to finish as we initially started working on it around the holidays in 2018. The intention was for it to be created for Alliance challenges, but the project was paused due to other priorities that came up and we ended up resuming progress on it a couple of years later.

This map was our first real dive into a part of the world not typically explored in our scenarios. Designed as a follow-up to Rising Tides, the concept centered around an Antarctic continent transformed into a habitable region, sparking a new wave of colonization by world powers. We used real-world maps as references while also envisioning how nations might carve up the continent in this future scenario.

Civil War Scenario

Civil War emerged from our desire to create a scenario where North American states are thrown into a full-scale conflict. We started with the BG USA tutorial map but wanted to shift the focus entirely to North American states. To achieve this, we scaled the map up and reduced the presence of non-American nations as much as possible. However, due to geographical constraints, we included a few Canadian and Mexican nations, such as Ontario and Jalisco.

Our goal was to capture the chaos of a civil war, so we made every state playable, with all research unlocked from day one, creating a fast-paced and intense gameplay experience. To give players a chance to strategize before conflict erupted, we introduced a 24-hour peace timer. We also put extra focus on mountainous terrain by limiting connections, making these areas harder to traverse. This created natural defensive borders that offered players a stronger defensive approach.

We replaced the standard Motorized Infantry with Mechanized Infantry as starting units, giving the scenario a more modern feel and offering players stronger, more resilient units to defend their territories early in the game.

Attention Commanders!

A new update to our seasonal points system has been implemented. Going forward, points earned for AI unit kills will no longer count toward your score. With this update, you can expect a more stable and reliable scoring system.

Here's what to expect:

• Improved XP Accuracy: Your XP will be calculated more precisely.
• Increased Stability: No more disappearing stats or random XP drops.
• Faster Updates: Easier for us to improve the game.

You may notice slight score adjustments due to more accurate calculations, but rest assured, these improvements will benefit the game and your experience in the long run.

Nuclear Winter Scenario

Nuclear Winter began with a simple “what if” question. One cold day, a few of us were outside chatting after hours when someone asked, “What if the world froze over? How devastating and life-changing would that be?” That little spark of conversation quickly turned into something bigger, and before we knew it, we were working on what would become one of the most beloved maps in Conflict of Nations!

Nuclear Winter isn't some scenario with a snowy backdrop and a couple of icy cosmetics, we wanted the ice to play a real role in how the game unfolds. That’s where icebergs and ice walls came in! These neutral, unconquerable obstacles appeared across land and sea, completely reshaping the map and challenging players to rethink their strategies with the introduction of new chokepoints and barriers.

Unlike most of our maps, where the tundra is typically confined to the far north, Nuclear Winter flipped the script covering the entire map in icy terrain. To mix things up even more, we added crater buildings to represent nuked cities, which helped even the playing field by weakening stronger nations from the start.
We also brought back some cool old features like Chosen and Domed Capitals. These gave the map a futuristic, post-apocalyptic vibe, paying homage to another fan favourite scenario: Rising Tides.
