Review:
If you've ever thought, "I love horror games, but can we add some Civil War flashbacks, bizarre puzzles, and a house that needs serious remodeling?" then The Beast Inside is your dream come true. This game has all the essentials for a spine-chilling experience: dark forests, creepy basements, and enough jump scares to knock your mouse off the desk. It's a mix of horror and mystery with a sprinkle of history, all wrapped in gorgeous graphics. But fair warning, the game jumps between two timelines—one in the 1970s with Adam and another in the 1800s with Nicolas. So, if you're not ready for a time-traveling, journal-writing, barn-exploring ride, you might want to grab a flashlight and brace yourself.

Pros:

Atmosphere is terrifyingly beautiful: The game's environments are a masterclass in how to make your skin crawl.

Dual-storyline concept: Two protagonists in different eras! It’s like a horror history class.

Top-tier jump scares: Guaranteed heart palpitations if you’re into that.


Cons:

Timeline jumps can be confusing: Wait, was I Adam or Nicolas? And why am I suddenly in a creepy cellar?

Puzzles range from intriguing to "just-why": Some make sense, others feel like punishment.

Occasional bugs: Nothing says horror like glitching through a floor mid-chase.


Overall: A unique experience that blends story and scares with a little historical flair. Just don’t be surprised if you're left both horrified and scratching your head.

Predictable and repetitive but the design and the atmosphere are worth it ( on sale of course )

I do not get, why this game has such a good review at all.
I am a bit sorry though, to review like this, because some people must have put many time and love in programming this game but it makes no fun at all to me...

First the positive things:

- Game is lovely made and very detailed, the atmosphere (especially in the present time line) is all in all well made in the beginning

Now the negative things:

- Controls (especially movement speed and opening/looting things) could be better, but OK
- The story wastes a LOT of potential, it starts super interesting but gets weirder and weirder the longer you play.
- Especially the past time line is overloaded with too much jumpscares, I'd say around 95% of these are absolutely predictable
- Furthermore, the past time line story in particular is totally overloaded, it starts off also interesting in the first chapter, but turns into an absolute clusterf*ck only "moments" later (in the 2nd chapter I think), which completely kills the subtle horror atmosphere at the expense of a wannabe first-person shooter running sequence, followed by an overloaded boss fight, which appears way too intense for being such an early part of the storyline
- Also the present timeline loses its charme very quickly, it all starts with this anomaly dectector thingy, which I hoped would be the silliest thing, like a little story "slip" by the creators, but it isn't. Furthermore the present time line turns from an atmospheric thriller story more and more in some boring 70's-year cheap spy movie.
- The game feels like it consists of at least 50% annoying puzzles.
- The game is totally good in giving NOT the possibility to pass the level via the direct way to play through at ANY spot, but forcing the player to ALWAYS go the longest and most circumstancial possible way in even the smallest parts of any level, including running back whole sections, e. g. to get another quest item from there, which only comes up when already you met the obstacle further - some would maybe say, these are lovely details, but obviously this is made to just generate playtime --- absolutely annoying !!!

I have about 6 hours playtime and being in Chapter 8, and I am hella exhausted of this game already, despite I really would like to play it through at least just once, but I don't know if I ever will be able to.

No recommendation !!!

This game flip flops between "interesting direction to take the story which can infer a lot of things about the main character" and "wow. who am I playing? is this... is this the same character I was playing an hour earlier?"

So this game takes place within two different points in time. One protagonist in the present and one in the past... except the fact that the player will be jumping between the two points of view isn't really found out until about 30 minutes into the game.

This wouldn't be a problem, except for the fact that the two perspectives never intersect until the very absolute **END** of the game. In the final 30 minutes of gameplay.

The combat is very basic, which wouldn't be a problem in a story-based game where you aren't really there for the sake of shooting zombies/ghosts like in Resident evil Or Siren(or Siren).

The trailer for the game also lies. Half of the situations shown in the trailer are unimportant or are missing from the actual game itself. That wouldn't be a problem, except for the fact that the game advertises itself as a mystery thriller, but the mystery itself is unsatisfying with no clues given to the player to solve for themselves and the thriller is full of infinite ammo pistols and instant-kill enemies with Boss battles.

There is never a point in the game that feels scary. Cheap jumpscares with loud noises fill the game. The philosophy of the story, regardless of what one of the four endings you choose, is that people can't choose what awful things they will do. It's just in their DNA to perform awful acts and resisting the urge just means that people will do *other* even *more awful* things to do.

Unlike a well-written horror such as Amnesia, or a psychological thriller like Uzumaki, The Beast Inside never has faith in anything it presents to the player and ends on such a sour note that the twist actively ruins the experience.

I can't replay the game again, not because I don't want to, but because the twist is so awful that none of the setups are ever resolved in a satisfying way in the game. There is genuinely such an interesting direction that the game could take. MANY directions the game could take, and instead of going in any of those directions this game digs a hole with dynamite and jumps inside.

I can recommend this game if you want to torture yourself for 4-5 hours. 2-3 of those hours will be spent on puzzles if you don't use a guide, not because the puzzles are hard but because they are obtusely designed to hide stuff from the player. Some puzzles even just waste your time because they require "doing literally everything until the puzzle says you did the right solution" because the hints given from the game don't match what you are supposed to do.

The Beast Inside masterfully blends psychological terror with historical intrigue, offering a horror experience that digs into your nerves with every eerie step you take. After finishing Resident Evil 7, I thought I had seen peak horror. The Beast Inside quickly proved me wrong, pushing the fear factor even further with its intense atmosphere, unsettling plot, and jump scares that will make your heart race.

The game unfolds across two timelines, allowing you to experience horror from both the present and the past. In the present, you play as Adam Stevenson, a CIA codebreaker, who moves to a secluded house with his wife during the Cold War. What’s supposed to be a peaceful retreat turns into a nightmare as Soviet agents and paranormal entities close in.

The past narrative follows Nicolas Hyde, who, through Adam's discovery of an old diary, relives his terrifying journey to uncover his family’s dark secrets while battling supernatural forces. The dual timelines and their intertwining plots create a chilling mystery that kept me glued to the screen.

While intriguing, the story itself isn’t particularly memorable once the game is finished. It’s captivating in the moment but lacks long-term impact. However, with 4 possible endings, you might want to revisit it to see how different choices play out—although, like me, you might prefer watching alternate endings on YouTube rather than replaying.

The game offers a mix of exploration, puzzles, and survival horror. What sets The Beast Inside apart is the high level of interactivity: almost every object you come across can be picked up and examined (or thrown around for fun). However, manipulating objects—particularly rotating them—feels clunky, especially with a mouse. While a controller improves the experience somewhat, playing with a keyboard and mouse still provides faster reaction times for combat.

One standout feature is the Quantum Localizer, a gadget that lets you see echoes of past events by scanning quantum clouds. It’s a unique mechanic that I haven’t seen in other games and helps guide your progress when playing as Adam.

That said, the inability to rebind key controls was a major annoyance for me. Since my "D" key was broken, I couldn’t move right until I connected a controller. It’s a strange omission, considering most games allow customization of controls.

The visual style is a bit deceptive. While the game’s trailers suggest hyper-realistic graphics, in practice, the environments are more cartoony—but still beautifully crafted. The atmospheric locations, like foggy forests and eerie caves, are visually stunning, even if the character models, particularly Adam’s wife, look a little uncanny and unsettling in an unintended way.

The sound design is excellent, building suspense and tension with minimal music and plenty of unnerving silence. The game uses sound to its advantage—when the music kicks in, you know something terrifying is about to happen, but the quiet moments are just as anxiety-inducing.

- A dual-timeline story with rich, engaging characters and 4 different endings.
- Gorgeous, atmospheric environments despite slightly cartoonish graphics.
- Brilliant sound design that heightens the horror experience.
- The Quantum Localizer is a unique mechanic, offering something fresh to the genre.

- Some awkward controls, especially with object interaction and lack of key binding options.
- The character models, especially human faces, feel a little off.
- Transitions between indoor and outdoor areas can be jarring, breaking immersion at times.
- Low replayability, unless you're interested in seeing the alternate endings.

The Beast Inside is a terrifyingly good time for fans of horror. From heart-stopping jump scares to a gripping story that spans two timelines, it keeps you engaged from start to finish. It may not be perfect, with its control issues and occasional bugs, but its atmosphere and storytelling make it a must-play. Be sure to grab it during a sale if the price seems steep—either way, it’s worth every scare.
